The 1993–94 Washington Wizards relied on Tom Gugliotta as their primary offensive and rebounding presence, with Harvey Grant providing dependable scoring and frontcourt support. Calbert Cheaney emerged as a key perimeter contributor, while Rex Chapman supplied additional backcourt scoring. Washington’s offense was spread across several regular contributors, but inconsistent defense and limited interior production made sustained success difficult.
Here is the Washington Bullets 1993–94 Roster and Player Statistics (the team was still known as the Bullets during this season):

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tom Gugliotta | Primary Frontcourt Engine (1.1) | 35.8 | High (1.2) | 17.1 | 9.3 | 3.5 | 2.9 | 86.59 | As Washington’s most complete young forward, Gugliotta handled scoring, rebounding and secondary playmaking while often operating from the frontcourt rather than simply posting up. Wes Unseld had already identified him as one of the club’s premier young players, and his ability to contribute across several areas made him the stabilizing piece in an otherwise unsettled roster. (The Washington Post) | — |
| Don MacLean | Stretch Scoring Forward (1.05) | 33.2 | High (1.2) | 18.2 | 6.2 | 2.1 | 0.9 | 69.05 | MacLean evolved into a featured scoring forward, using his shooting touch to stretch the floor while also attacking from the mid-post. His improved conditioning and willingness to work during the summer were specifically credited by Wes Unseld for his breakout, while John Nash viewed him as a potential go-to scorer for the rebuilding Bullets. (The Washington Post) | NBA Most Improved Player (1994) |
| Rex Chapman | Primary Perimeter Shot Creator (1.05) | 33.8 | High (1.2) | 18.2 | 2.4 | 3.1 | 1.1 | 62.50 | Chapman remained one of Washington’s principal perimeter creators, with the freedom to attack and shoot rather than functioning solely as an off-ball spacer. His career year was interrupted by a dislocated ankle that cost him seven weeks, and contemporary reporting noted that his production and MacLean’s had become central to the team’s young scoring core. (The Washington Post) | Most Improved Player voting: T-7th (1994) |
| Michael Adams | Veteran Pick-and-Roll Organizer (1.05) | 33.4 | Medium (1.1) | 12.1 | 2.6 | 6.9 | 1.5 | 53.36 | Adams remained Washington’s principal veteran organizer, responsible for getting the offense into actions and creating shots for others. His place in the rebuilding hierarchy became increasingly debated, though, with management viewing him as part of the immediate future while questioning whether he belonged in the longer-term core. (The Washington Post) | — |
| Calbert Cheaney | Starting Two-Way Wing (1.05) | 24.7 | Medium (1.1) | 12.0 | 2.9 | 1.9 | 1.2 | 41.58 | Cheaney entered the NBA as a polished scoring wing whose Indiana career had been built around cutting, screening and mid-range shooting. Washington’s draft staff specifically praised his effectiveness without the ball while acknowledging that he needed to expand his one-on-one creation, and the rookie was immediately given a meaningful role despite preseason hamstring problems. (The Washington Post) | NBA Rookie Game (1994) |
| Pervis Ellison | Interior Defensive Anchor (1.05) | 25.1 | Medium (1.1) | 7.3 | 5.1 | 1.5 | 1.6 | 32.55 | Ellison’s role was increasingly defined by interior defense and physical presence rather than the offensive prominence he had shown earlier in Washington. Knee problems again undermined his season, and a February ligament injury ended his campaign just as the Bullets were already dealing with a depleted frontcourt. (The Washington Post) | — |
| Kevin Duckworth | Veteran Interior Pivot (1.0) | 21.5 | Low (1.0) | 6.6 | 4.7 | 0.8 | 1.0 | 26.20 | Duckworth was brought in to give Washington the true NBA center it believed it had lacked since Moses Malone. Unseld expected his size and experience to reduce the rebounding burden on Ellison, but also acknowledged concerns about Duckworth’s conditioning and whether he could regain the form that had made him an All-Star. | Mitchell Butler | Defensive Utility Guard (1.0) | 17.6 | Low (1.0) | 6.9 | 3.0 | 1.0 | 1.0 | 23.80 | Butler was essentially a roster-survival story during a season when Washington’s injuries created constant pressure on the rotation. He earned a spot after training camp and was specifically among the players the front office wanted to retain when injuries to Ellison, Stewart and Muresan created roster complications. (The Washington Post) | — |
| Brent Price | Reserve Floor Spacer (1.0) | 15.9 | Low (1.0) | 6.2 | 1.4 | 3.3 | 0.8 | 23.40 | Price provided Washington with another ball-handler and perimeter option behind Adams. Contemporary preseason coverage treated him as part of the club’s younger group that needed to grow into larger responsibilities, although the veteran Adams remained the primary organizer for most of the season. (The Washington Post) | — |
| Gheorghe Mureșan | Developing Rim Protector (1.0) | 12.0 | Low (1.0) | 5.6 | 3.6 | 0.3 | 1.4 | 21.80 | Mureșan was initially more curiosity than finished player, but Unseld insisted that his legitimate basketball ability mattered more than his extraordinary 7-foot-7 frame. Illness delayed his debut, and the rookie’s role remained limited while Washington gradually tested how his size could translate defensively. (The Washington Post) | — |
| Kenny Walker | Energy Rebound Forward (1.0) | 19.1 | Low (1.0) | 4.8 | 4.0 | 0.5 | 1.2 | 21.00 | Walker returned to the NBA after playing professionally overseas and initially benefited from Washington’s injury problems. His role was mainly physical and complementary, supplying rebounding, energy and some interior defense rather than being asked to create offense. (The Washington Post) | — |
| Marty Conlon | Emergency Interior Reserve (1.0) | 14.4 | Low (1.0) | 5.0 | 3.6 | 0.4 | 0.4 | 18.80 | Conlon arrived late in the season after Washington claimed him off waivers, making his role almost entirely situational. With the Bullets already cycling through an unusually large number of players, there was little opportunity for him to establish a regular offensive identity. (Wikipedia) | — |
| Ron Anderson | Veteran Frontcourt Stopgap (1.0) | 18.0 | Low (1.0) | 5.2 | 2.7 | 1.1 | 0.4 | 18.80 | Anderson was a late-season depth addition rather than part of Washington’s planned rotation. His brief stint came during another period of roster instability, with the Bullets relying on short-term veteran options as injuries and performance issues continued to reshape the frontcourt. | — |
| Larry Stewart | Physical Wing-Four Reserve (1.0) | 11.7 | Low (1.0) | 4.3 | 2.3 | 0.7 | 1.0 | 16.60 | Stewart’s season never developed because a broken foot kept him out for most of the campaign. He was already on the injured list before the opener, leaving Washington without a useful physical forward option just as the club was trying to sort out its crowded frontcourt. (The Washington Post) | — |
| LaBradford Smith | Scoring Guard Depth Piece (1.0) | 6.9 | Low (1.0) | 4.4 | 1.1 | 0.7 | 0.5 | 13.40 | Smith’s season was reduced to a very small role before Washington released him. Independent preseason coverage listed him among the returning guards, but the Bullets’ roster churn ultimately pushed him out as the organization searched for a more workable combination of perimeter players. (The Washington Post) | — |
| Doug Overton | Backup Ball-Movement Guard (1.0) | 12.3 | Low (1.0) | 3.6 | 1.1 | 1.5 | 0.3 | 13.00 | Overton functioned as a reserve organizer behind Adams, providing another player capable of advancing the ball and initiating offense without demanding many possessions. His place was secure enough that Washington had already committed to him with a three-year deal before the season began. (The Washington Post) | — |
| Gerald Paddio | Emergency Wing Scorer (1.0) | 9.3 | Low (1.0) | 3.8 | 1.4 | 0.9 | 0.4 | 13.00 | Paddio was a short-term emergency addition rather than a planned rotation player. The Bullets were forced to keep expanding their roster as injuries accumulated, and his limited eight-game stint reflects the temporary nature of that assignment. | — |
| Andrew Gaze | Situational Shooting Specialist (1.0) | 10.0 | Low (1.0) | 3.1 | 1.0 | 0.7 | 0.4 | 10.40 | Gaze’s NBA opportunity came very late in the season and lasted only seven games, leaving little contemporary evidence of a defined Washington role beyond perimeter shooting. His arrival was part of the Bullets’ continuing effort to fill short-term roster gaps during a remarkably unsettled season. | — |
| Tito Horford | Emergency Backup Center (1.0) | 9.3 | Low (1.0) | 0.0 | 1.0 | 0.0 | 1.3 | 4.60 | Horford was retained after Washington’s injury situation opened a roster spot, giving the Bullets a 7-foot-1 emergency center behind Duckworth. Contemporary reporting specifically described his opportunity as a way to provide interior size and take some pressure off Gugliotta and MacLean on the glass. (The Washington Post) | — |
| Manute Bol | Late-Season Shot-Blocking Specialist (1.0) | 3.0 | Low (1.0) | 0.0 | 0.5 | 0.5 | 0.5 | 3.00 | Bol’s two-game appearance was strictly situational, with Washington using him as an emergency interior option rather than incorporating him into the regular rotation. His late-season arrival illustrates how far the Bullets had to reach into their depth during the roster churn of 1993-94. | — |
| Team Totals | Washington Bullets | 240.3 | — | 100.4 | 39.8 | 22.2 | 12.4 | — | Washington’s season was built around a young scoring group led by MacLean, Gugliotta and Chapman, but injuries repeatedly broke up the rotation. The Bullets ultimately used 20 players during a 24-58 season, while the front office continued trying to determine which young pieces could form the long-term core. (The Washington Post) | — |
