The 1976–77 New Jersey Nets centered their offence around John Williamson’s scoring, with Julius Erving’s departure leaving a more balanced attack supported by Rich Kelley and Jim Eakins in the frontcourt. Eddie Jordan handled the primary playmaking duties, while Kelley anchored the rebounding. The Nets competed through balanced contributions and solid work on the glass, but inconsistent shooting efficiency and limited offensive firepower hindered their overall effectiveness.

Note: This was the first season for the Nets in the NBA after the ABA–NBA merger. They officially became the New Jersey Nets and moved from Long Island to Piscataway, New Jersey, playing at the Rutgers Athletic Center.
