The Houston Rockets 1973–74 season was led by Rudy Tomjanovich, whose scoring and rebounding established him as the team’s central offensive force, while Mike Newlin provided consistent backcourt scoring and primary playmaking. Elvin Hayes continued to supply strong interior production before his departure, with Dwight Jones contributing rebounding and defensive support in the frontcourt. Houston relied on balanced scoring and solid work on the boards, but inconsistent defense and limited offensive efficiency contributed to a losing season.
