The Houston Rockets 1971–72 season was built around Elvin Hayes, whose prolific scoring, dominant rebounding, and interior defense established him as the team’s clear focal point. Don Chaney provided dependable backcourt scoring and playmaking, while Jack Marin added versatile offensive production on the wing. Houston relied on its strong frontcourt and rebounding advantage to remain competitive, but inconsistent overall offense and defensive execution contributed to another losing season.
