The 1996–97 Dallas Mavericks were led by Michael Finley, who emerged as the team’s primary scorer and most complete contributor. Samaki Walker and A.C. Green supplied rebounding and interior production, while Derek Harper provided veteran playmaking from the backcourt. Dallas played at a relatively fast pace and received balanced offensive contributions, but inefficient scoring, inconsistent shooting, and below-average defense contributed to another difficult season.
