The 1995–96 Dallas Mavericks were powered offensively by Jim Jackson, with George McCloud providing perimeter scoring and Jason Kidd orchestrating the offense while contributing across the board. Lorenzo Williams anchored the interior with rebounding and shot blocking, giving Dallas a dependable defensive presence inside. Despite capable playmaking and balanced scoring options, inconsistent defense and inefficient overall play limited the team’s success.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jason Kidd | Starter/Star | 37.5 | High | 16.6 | 6.8 | 9.7 | 2.5 | 93.46 | Pass-first floor general was already Kidd’s identity, but this season he expanded into a full offensive engine. He pushed tempo relentlessly, generated easy looks for teammates and stuffed every category, finishing with 9.7 assists and 6.8 rebounds while making his first All-Star team. | NBA All-Star 1996, NBA All-Rookie First Team 1995, NBA Rookie of the Year 1995 |
| Jamal Mashburn | Starter/Star | 37.2 | High | 23.4 | 5.4 | 2.8 | 1.0 | 85.01 | Isolation scoring sat at the heart of Mashburn’s game before injuries cut his season short. He carried a major offensive burden, creating shots from the wing and averaging 23.4 points in one of the most productive stretches of his early career. | — |
| George McCloud | Starter/Star | 36.0 | High | 18.9 | 4.8 | 2.7 | 1.9 | 74.18 | Volume perimeter shooting transformed Dallas’ spacing, with McCloud launching a huge number of threes for the era. His 18.9 points per game and deep range made him one of the league’s most dangerous long-distance threats. | NBA Three-Point Contest Champion 1996 |
| Jim Jackson | Starter/Star | 34.4 | High | 19.6 | 5.0 | 2.9 | 0.9 | 74.18 | Smooth wing scoring and dependable two-way play made Jackson a nightly fixture. He balanced perimeter shooting with strong drives to the basket and remained one of Dallas’ most complete offensive players. | — |
| Popeye Jones | Starter/Star | 34.1 | Medium | 11.3 | 10.8 | 1.9 | 1.2 | 60.74 | Physical rebounding was Jones’ calling card, and few players attacked the glass harder. His work inside gave Dallas second chances while helping offset a roster built around perimeter scorers. | — |
| Lorenzo Williams | Starter/Star | 27.8 | Low | 3.0 | 8.0 | 1.3 | 2.6 | 32.78 | Defensive-minded center play defined Williams’ role. He focused on rebounding and rim protection, using his length to anchor the paint despite contributing very little as a scorer. | — |
| Tony Dumas | Key Contributor | 19.2 | Medium | 11.6 | 1.7 | 1.5 | 0.8 | 36.50 | Athletic shot creation gave Dumas value as a young scoring option. He attacked open space aggressively and supplied instant offense, even though his overall efficiency remained inconsistent. | NBA All-Rookie Second Team 1995 |
| Lucious Harris | Key Contributor | 16.7 | Low | 7.9 | 2.0 | 1.3 | 0.6 | 24.78 | Spot-up shooting fit Harris perfectly in a reserve role. He moved well without the ball, knocked down open jumpers and provided efficient scoring when called upon. | — |
| Loren Meyer | Key Contributor | 17.6 | Low | 5.0 | 4.4 | 0.8 | 0.7 | 22.89 | Interior depth duties fell to Meyer, who supplied rebounding and physical play off the bench. His contributions were modest but useful on a thin frontcourt roster. | Rookie season |
| Terry Davis | Bench | 17.9 | Low | 4.9 | 4.2 | 0.8 | 0.5 | 20.80 | Energy and effort were Davis’ biggest strengths. He worked the offensive glass, finished around the rim and filled a complementary role in limited minutes. | — |
| Scott Brooks | Bench | 10.4 | Low | 5.1 | 0.6 | 1.4 | 0.6 | 15.40 | Backup point guard responsibilities suited Brooks well. He brought steady ball-handling, reliable outside shooting and veteran composure whenever the second unit took the floor. | — |
| Cherokee Parks | Bench | 13.6 | Low | 3.9 | 3.4 | 0.5 | 0.9 | 17.40 | Mobile big-man skills flashed at times for Parks. While still developing physically, he showed enough passing touch and defensive activity to hint at long-term upside. | Rookie season |
| David Wood | Bench | 17.4 | Low | 4.9 | 3.6 | 0.7 | 0.6 | 19.60 | Veteran frontcourt depth was Wood’s primary assignment. He spaced the floor occasionally, played within his role and provided dependable minutes when injuries hit the rotation. | — |
| Reggie Slater | Bench | 8.7 | Low | 3.7 | 1.7 | 0.0 | 0.0 | 10.80 | Limited appearances make evaluation difficult, but Slater’s athleticism and activity around the basket stood out in a very small sample. | — |
| Donald Hodge | Bench | 8.7 | Low | 1.4 | 1.7 | 0.3 | 0.7 | 8.20 | Reserve center minutes were scarce for Hodge, whose contributions came mostly through physical defense and occasional shot-blocking around the rim. | — |
| TEAM TOTALS | — | 243.0 | — | 102.5 | 46.2 | 23.3 | 12.0 | 595.72 | Dallas built its offense around Jason Kidd’s playmaking and a trio of high-volume wing scorers in Jamal Mashburn, Jim Jackson and George McCloud. Popeye Jones controlled the glass, while Lorenzo Williams supplied interior defense for one of the league’s highest-scoring teams. | — |
