The Austin Spurs’ 2017-18 season culminated in the second championship in franchise history and the organization’s first title since rebranding from the Toros. Under head coach Blake Ahearn, Austin finished 32-18, posted one of the NBA G League’s best records, and entered the playoffs as a conference leader before defeating the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, South Bay Lakers, and Raptors 905 to capture the league championship.
The season is best remembered for the emergence of Derrick White, whose dominant performances in Austin accelerated his rise from first-round draft pick to future NBA starter. He was joined by a deep rotation that included Darrun Hilliard, Jaron Blossomgame, Nick Johnson, and Matt Costello, with Johnson earning Finals MVP honors after Austin completed a two-game sweep of Raptors 905 in the championship series. The 2017-18 campaign stands as one of the defining seasons in franchise history, combining player development with a championship run.
