The Austin Spurs’ 2014-15 season was the first played under the Spurs name after the franchise’s rebranding from the Austin Toros, and it quickly became one of the organization’s strongest campaigns. Austin finished 32-18, won the Southwest Division, and secured the second seed in the Western Conference during the NBA D-League’s first season using a conference alignment. Guided by head coach Ken McDonald, the Spurs combined a fast-paced offense with a roster that reflected San Antonio’s growing emphasis on player development. JaMychal Green earned All-NBA D-League First Team honors and emerged as one of the league’s top forwards, while future NBA contributors such as Kyle Anderson, Bryce Cotton, Cory Jefferson, and Jonathan Simmons all spent time with the club. Austin advanced past the Bakersfield Jam in the opening playoff round before falling to the eventual champion Santa Cruz Warriors in a tightly contested semifinal series.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JaMychal Green | Interior Offensive Anchor (1.1) | 31.5 | High | 23.0 | 10.7 | 2.5 | 2.6 | 102.43 | As Austin’s interior focal point, Green punished smaller lineups with strong post work and relentless rebounding. His December run included seven double-doubles in 10 games and 24.5 points with 11.3 rebounds, while his January NBA call-up showed how quickly that production translated to the next level. Sports Illustrated — Spurs sign forward JaMychal Green | NBA D-League Player of the Month (December 2014) |
| Kyle Anderson | Primary Point Forward (1.1) | 40.1 | High | 21.3 | 8.7 | 4.8 | 3.5 | 101.11 | Anderson operated as a jumbo initiator, using his deliberate pace and unusual size to create from the wing and control possessions. His February D-League surge helped Austin go 8-1, and contemporaneous coverage emphasized his ability to generate offense while filling the box score defensively. | Bryce Cotton | Lead Shot Creator (1.1) | 40.2 | High | 22.4 | 4.7 | 4.6 | 1.4 | 87.38 | Cotton was the team’s high-volume perimeter creator, but his development went beyond pure scoring; scouting coverage noted that he had evolved from a volume shooter into a more complete point guard. His ability to stretch defenses with pull-up shooting and attack off the bounce made him Austin’s primary late-clock option. | Josh Davis | Rebounding-Focused Two-Way Forward (1.05) | 33.8 | Medium | 13.8 | 10.5 | 2.2 | 2.5 | 66.99 | Davis functioned as a rangy frontcourt rebounder whose value came from activity, transition play and second-chance possessions. His reputation at San Diego State had already been built around elite rebounding and defensive versatility, traits that carried into his first professional season. | Orlando Johnson | Secondary Wing Scoring Engine (1.05) | 34.5 | High | 17.4 | 5.2 | 3.2 | 1.4 | 68.54 | Johnson supplied Austin with a physical scoring presence on the wing, capable of attacking mismatches while also handling secondary creation duties. His earlier NBA experience and subsequent overseas stops gave him a more seasoned offensive role than a typical developmental-league reserve. Sportando — Orlando Johnson signs with Barangay Ginebra | — |
| Jonathon Simmons | Two-Way Wing Creator (1.05) | 33.7 | High | 15.2 | 4.3 | 3.7 | 1.4 | 61.99 | Simmons emerged as a powerful downhill wing who could also take on ball-handling responsibilities. His route from an open tryout to Austin’s rotation was part of the season’s larger development story, while his improved outside shooting and defensive activity helped push him onto the NBA radar. | Adreian Payne | Pick-and-Pop Power Forward (1.05) | 25.3 | Medium | 12.6 | 7.1 | 1.9 | 2.0 | 54.52 | Payne was used as an athletic interior scorer with enough range to pull defenders away from the paint. Austin’s early-season coverage highlighted his comfort around the basket, offensive rebounding and explosive leaping, while also noting that his defensive positioning was still developing. | Eric Murphy | Stretch Four Creator (1.05) | 22.7 | Medium | 11.8 | 5.6 | 1.6 | 1.5 | 47.36 | Murphy gave Austin a spacing-oriented frontcourt option, pairing interior size with enough perimeter shooting to force opposing bigs into uncomfortable matchups. His role was especially useful beside more physical rebounders because he could operate away from the lane rather than clogging the offense. | Jarell Eddie | Movement Shooting Specialist (1.05) | 26.2 | Medium | 12.9 | 3.4 | 0.9 | 0.9 | 41.81 | Eddie’s offensive identity centered on floor spacing and catch-and-shoot threat, forcing defenses to account for him beyond the arc. His shooting reputation was strong enough that he won the D-League Three-Point Contest during the season and earned an NBA call-up from Atlanta. | Jeffery Taylor | Veteran Two-Way Wing (1.0) | 26.3 | Medium | 11.8 | 3.5 | 1.5 | 1.1 | 39.38 | Taylor served as an experienced wing capable of attacking closeouts and defending multiple perimeter positions. His brief Austin assignment was specifically intended to rebuild his rhythm and playing level after returning from injury, giving him a developmental bridge back to NBA rotation work. | Richard Howell | Starting Interior Scorer (1.05) | 23.4 | Medium | 8.8 | 4.9 | 1.0 | 0.6 | 32.13 | Howell provided physical interior depth, relying on strength, rebounding instincts and efficient finishing rather than a perimeter-heavy game. His Austin stint was also part of a larger D-League career in which he was trusted to provide reliable frontcourt production. OurSportsCentral — Austin Spurs coverage | — |
| Keith Wright | Defensive Rebounding Centerpiece (1.05) | 21.8 | Medium | 5.9 | 6.7 | 1.0 | 1.6 | 31.92 | Wright functioned as a possession stabilizer in the frontcourt, doing much of his work through rebounding, interior defense and positioning rather than isolation offense. His Harvard background and European experience also made him one of Austin’s more seasoned interior options. CBS Sports — Keith Wright claimed by Westchester | — |
| Mouhamed Sene | Rim-Protecting Centerpiece (1.0) | 11.6 | Low | 5.7 | 4.1 | 0.1 | 1.5 | 22.80 | Sene’s value was concentrated around the rim, where his length and timing made him a natural shot-blocking specialist. Austin acquired him late in the season specifically as an experienced defensive big, and his previous D-League history included a Defensive Player of the Year honor. OurSportsCentral — Austin Spurs Acquire Mouhamed Sene | — |
| Khyle Marshall | Energy Frontcourt Reserve (1.0) | 9.3 | Low | 3.4 | 2.6 | 0.2 | 0.4 | 13.20 | Marshall supplied short-burst athleticism from the frontcourt, with his minutes generally tied to energy plays, rebounding and defensive activity rather than offensive creation. Contemporary game coverage shows him operating as a situational reserve behind Austin’s more established bigs. NBA G League — Khyle Marshall player profile | — |
| Armon Johnson | Backup Floor General (1.0) | 19.0 | Low | 1.0 | 1.5 | 3.5 | 0.0 | 12.00 | Johnson’s limited role was primarily organizational: he provided veteran point-guard depth and helped move the ball when Austin needed another handler. His professional background included prior D-League experience and a history of running offenses rather than functioning as a scoring-first guard. NBA G League — Armon Johnson player profile | — |
| Russell Robinson | Defensive Point Guard Reserve (1.0) | 11.3 | Low | 1.3 | 1.3 | 0.7 | 1.0 | 8.60 | Robinson was used as a defensive-minded backcourt reserve, with his value tied more to pressure defense and ball security responsibilities than shot creation. Limited contemporary coverage makes his exact Austin role difficult to document beyond that reserve function. RealGM — Russell Robinson player profile | — |
| Mfon Udofia | Defensive Utility Guard (1.0) | 10.6 | Low | 2.2 | 0.9 | 0.8 | 0.3 | 8.40 | Udofia occupied a flexible guard-depth role, able to give Austin another ball-handler while competing for minutes in a crowded backcourt. His later coaching career in the G League also reflects the developmental environment he came through, although contemporary reporting on his 2014-15 playing role is limited. | Greg Gantt | Spot-Up Shooting Reserve (1.0) | 9.1 | Low | 2.5 | 0.8 | 0.1 | 0.2 | 7.20 | Gantt’s role was that of a low-minute perimeter specialist, with his offensive value dependent on spacing and opportunistic shooting rather than primary creation. Limited independent season coverage was available, so the precise tactical details of his Austin usage are less well documented. | — |
| Devondrick Walker | Transition Wing Reserve (1.0) | 11.1 | Low | 3.0 | 1.5 | 0.9 | 0.4 | 11.60 | Walker came into Austin after open tryouts and carved out a developmental wing role built around athleticism, energy and transition play. He helped Austin reach the Western Conference Finals, but his minutes remained modest as the club relied more heavily on its established creators. | Trey Gilder | Veteran Frontcourt Depth (1.0) | 9.0 | Low | 1.0 | 0.5 | 1.0 | 0.0 | 5.00 | Gilder was a late-season veteran addition whose value was tied to frontcourt versatility and professional experience rather than a large offensive workload. He was acquired in January and moved to Westchester less than three weeks later, leaving only a small Austin sample to evaluate. OurSportsCentral — Austin Spurs transaction coverage | — |
| Travis McKie | Defensive Wing Depth Piece (1.0) | 6.0 | Low | 0.8 | 1.2 | 0.6 | 0.0 | 5.20 | McKie was a deep-rotation wing whose likely value came from defensive effort, positional size and willingness to fill a low-usage role. Independent season-specific reporting is limited, so there is not enough contemporary evidence to characterize his Austin responsibilities more narrowly. | — |

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Anderson | Primary Point Forward (1.1) | 37.6 | High | 17.0 | 7.8 | 3.8 | 2.6 | 82.37 | Anderson was Austin’s jumbo initiator, often operating from the frontcourt while creating offense with his size and patience. In the Western Conference Finals, he logged 45:41 in the deciding Game 3 and produced 22 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks, underlining how much of Austin’s offense and defensive versatility ran through him. | Orlando Johnson | Primary Wing Creator (1.1) | 40.7 | High | 18.3 | 4.5 | 5.7 | 1.9 | 80.26 | Johnson functioned as a high-minute scoring wing who also had to initiate possessions when Austin’s offense stalled. His playoff workload became especially pronounced against Santa Cruz: he played 44:56 in Game 2 and paired 14 points with 11 rebounds and 7 assists, showing the secondary playmaking burden behind his shot creation. | Jonathon Simmons | Downhill Wing Creator (1.05) | 32.3 | High | 15.7 | 3.8 | 1.7 | 3.0 | 60.98 | Simmons brought a physical attacking style off the wing and became one of Austin’s most dangerous second-unit scorers. In the pivotal Game 2 win at Santa Cruz, he came off the bench for 32:29 and scored 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting, adding three steals; that burst illustrated why his defensive pressure and downhill offense translated so well to playoff basketball. | Jarell Eddie | Elite Floor-Spacing Wing (1.05) | 31.3 | High | 13.8 | 4.7 | 1.3 | 0.8 | 51.91 | Eddie was Austin’s specialist floor-spacer, stretching defenses far beyond the normal range of a developmental-league forward. That weapon became decisive in Game 2 against Santa Cruz, when he erupted for 35 points and seven threes; independent D-League coverage specifically highlighted his quick release and postseason shooting as among the league’s best. | Eric Murphy | Stretch Frontcourt Connector (1.05) | 19.7 | Medium | 12.5 | 5.0 | 2.0 | 1.7 | 48.97 | Murphy gave Austin a useful stretch-big dimension, comfortable enough outside to pull a defender away from the paint while still contributing on the glass. His playoff role was clearly matchup-dependent, though he could swing a game with efficient shooting; he went 2-for-3 from three in the semifinal clincher against Bakersfield. RealGM — Austin Spurs at Bakersfield Jam, April 11, 2015 (NBA.com) | — |
| Mouhamed Sene | Shot-Blocking Interior Anchor (1.05) | 24.3 | Medium | 7.0 | 7.2 | 1.0 | 3.0 | 42.04 | Sene’s playoff value centered on rim protection and vertical finishing rather than playmaking. He repeatedly occupied the paint as Austin’s defensive safety valve, and his 4-block performance against Bakersfield in Game 2 showed the disruptive length that made him a difficult interior matchup. | — |
| Keith Wright | Rebounding-Oriented Interior Stabilizer (1.0) | 19.2 | Medium | 2.3 | 6.0 | 1.2 | 1.5 | 24.20 | Wright was essentially Austin’s possession stabilizer inside, doing the dirty work with offensive rebounds, box-outs and interior positioning. His role could expand sharply when Austin needed more size; in a March meeting he grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked five shots, illustrating the defensive-rebounding foundation behind his modest scoring load. OurSportsCentral — Austin Spurs coverage | — |
| Armon Johnson | Veteran Backup Floor General (1.0) | 13.0 | Low | 4.0 | 1.6 | 1.6 | 0.6 | 15.60 | Johnson supplied experienced point-guard depth rather than serving as a major scoring option. During the conference-final run, his minutes were situational, but he could still organize the second unit; in Game 2 at Santa Cruz he contributed four rebounds and four assists in just 13:31. RealGM — Austin Spurs at Santa Cruz Warriors, April 19, 2015 | — |
| Devondrick Walker | Athletic Transition Wing (1.0) | 7.0 | Low | 3.0 | 1.7 | 0.3 | 0.3 | 10.60 | Walker provided energy and athleticism from the wing, with his playoff minutes largely dependent on the matchup and rotation needs. His limited usage did not prevent occasional impact plays; earlier in the postseason he produced a 12-point outing against Rio Grande Valley while attacking the game with noticeably more aggression than his normal reserve role. NBA.com — Austin Spurs vs. Rio Grande Valley box score | — |
| Mfon Udofia | Defensive-Oriented Point Guard Reserve (1.0) | 21.2 | Low | 1.7 | 1.8 | 1.0 | 0.5 | 10.00 | Udofia handled a larger nominal point-guard responsibility than his scoring line suggests, starting five of the six playoff games while primarily organizing possessions and defending opposing guards. His role was particularly evident in the Western Conference Finals, where he started Game 3 but played 21:08 without taking on a major scoring burden. RealGM — Mfon Udofia player profile and 2015 playoff context | — |
| Khyle Marshall | Situational Energy Forward (1.0) | 5.0 | Low | 3.0 | 1.0 | 0.0 | 0.0 | 8.00 | Marshall was a situational frontcourt piece whose athleticism gave Austin another option when the rotation needed fresh legs. His playoff role was extremely narrow, appearing for only five minutes in the supplied postseason sample, so independent season-specific reporting provides little evidence for a more expansive tactical description. | — |
