The 2011–12 season was a transitional year for the Toronto Raptors, marked by the hiring of head coach Dwane Casey, who emphasized defensive improvements. While the team showed progress in defensive metrics, they struggled offensively, ranking 28th in points per game. DeMar DeRozan emerged as the team’s leading scorer, and Andrea Bargnani continued to be a key offensive contributor. Despite these efforts, the Raptors finished with a 23–43 record and did not qualify for the playoffs.
