The Thunder concluded their inaugural season in Oklahoma City with a 23–59 record, finishing 5th in the Northwest Division and 13th in the Western Conference, thereby missing the playoffs. Kevin Durant led the team in scoring with 25.3 points per game. Rookie Russell Westbrook contributed 15.3 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game, earning All-Rookie First Team honors. Jeff Green added 16.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Mid-season coaching changes saw Scott Brooks take over from P.J. Carlesimo, leading to improved performance in the latter part of the season.
