The 2008–09 season was marked by significant changes for the Toronto Raptors. The team began with high expectations after acquiring Jermaine O’Neal to bolster the frontcourt alongside Chris Bosh. However, a disappointing start led to the dismissal of head coach Sam Mitchell, with Jay Triano taking over the role. Mid-season trades, including sending O’Neal and Jamario Moon to the Miami Heat for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks, further altered the team’s dynamics. Despite these changes, the Raptors struggled to find consistency and ultimately missed the playoffs.
