The 1971–72 Golden State Warriors were led by Jeff Mullins, whose scoring and playmaking provided the foundation of the offense, while Nate Thurmond anchored the team with elite rebounding and interior defense. Jerry Lucas added strong work on the glass and efficient scoring, giving the frontcourt considerable balance. The Warriors relied on rebounding, defensive play, and balanced offensive contributions, but their limited scoring depth made sustained offensive production difficult.
