The Canton Charge’s 2019-20 season was cut short when the NBA G League suspended play in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. By that point, Canton had compiled a 29-14 record and established itself as one of the league’s strongest teams, sitting near the top of the Eastern Conference standings. The Charge were powered by a veteran-heavy roster that featured former NBA players and experienced G League contributors, with Dean Wade playing a prominent role whenever available and Deng Adel emerging as one of the team’s leading offensive threats. Canton combined efficient scoring with strong defensive play, allowing the club to maintain consistency despite the roster movement that accompanies every G League season. Although the abrupt end to the year denied the Charge an opportunity to pursue a postseason run, the team’s performance over 43 games reflected one of the franchise’s most successful regular seasons.

PLAYER NAME ROLE TIER MPG USAGE TIER PPG RPG APG STK IMPACT INDEX NOTES AWARDS
Levi Randolph Primary Two-Way Wing (1.1) 34.6 High 16.9 5.3 3.6 1.6 72.34 As Canton’s veteran wing hub, Randolph handled a broad offensive workload while also supplying secondary playmaking; contemporaneous coverage described him as someone expected to take on a sizable role as he worked his way back toward the NBA. His 47-point triple-overtime performance later underscored how much offensive responsibility the Charge could place on him. Levi Randolph: Heads to Canton Randolph, Charge Nix Knicks in Triple OT NBA Call-Up to Cleveland (2020)
Dean Wade Stretch Frontcourt Engine (1.1) 31.1 High 14.2 7.4 2.4 2.1 68.90 Wade functioned as a versatile frontcourt initiator rather than a traditional interior big, combining pick-and-pop spacing with rebounding and connective passing. His 29-point, eight-rebound, four-steal game in February showed the two-way range of that role, while his 4.6 three-point attempts per game gave Canton a legitimate stretch-big option. Wade’s Career High Leads Canton by Fort Wayne NBA Call-Up/Two-Way Player with Cleveland (2019-20)
Malik Newman Lead Shot Creator (1.1) 30.2 High 16.1 3.5 4.5 0.6 65.21 Newman operated as one of Canton’s primary perimeter creators, capable of shifting between scoring and pick-and-roll playmaking. He scored 20-plus in five consecutive games during one January stretch and was specifically viewed as Cleveland’s point-guard depth when he received a 10-day contract, reflecting how his offensive creation translated beyond the G League. Malik Newman: Back in G League NBA Call-Up to Cleveland (2020)
Matt Mooney Lead Pick-and-Roll Guard (1.05) 32.8 High 13.9 4.4 5.4 1.8 64.26 Mooney’s value came from keeping the offense organized while still threatening defenses from deep; his 5.4 assists and 1.8 steals capture only part of a role built around pressure, ball movement and point-of-attack activity. After joining Canton, he quickly produced games with eight assists and four steals, reinforcing his reputation as a disruptive lead guard. Matt Mooney: Gets two-way deal from Cleveland NBA Call-Up/Two-Way Player with Cleveland (2020)
J.P. Macura Defensive Pressure Wing (1.05) 28.9 High 14.2 4.3 2.3 2.8 59.47 Macura brought an unusually aggressive defensive edge to Canton’s wing rotation, pressuring the ball and creating extra possessions while still serving as a secondary scoring option. His 2.4 steals and 3.0 fouls per game fit the combative style seen in contemporary coverage, while a 28-point January outing showed he could carry more of the scoring burden when needed. Charge Drop First Bout with Raptors 905 NBA Call-Up to Cleveland (2020)
Sheldon McClellan Instant-Offense Reserve (1.05) 27.0 High 15.5 4.1 2.5 1.2 58.72 McClellan was Canton’s explosive scoring change-up, frequently attacking as a reserve rather than needing a starter’s workload to create offense. His 39-point eruption off the bench in January became a defining example of that microwave scoring ability, and his later three-game stretch of at least 17 points helped earn an NBA 10-day contract. Cavaliers’ Sheldon Mac: Gets 10-day deal from Cleveland NBA Call-Up to Cleveland (2020)
Sir’Dominic Pointer Defensive Utility Forward (1.05) 25.8 Medium 12.0 5.5 1.9 3.9 53.82 Pointer’s role was built around defensive disruption, weak-side activity and positional versatility rather than conventional scoring volume. His combination of 1.9 steals and 2.0 blocks made him one of Canton’s most active defensive playmakers, and that profile was recognized with selection to the 2019-20 NBA G League All-Defensive Team. NBA G League Announces 2019/20 All-NBAGL Teams NBA G League All-Defensive Team (2020); NBA Call-Up to Cleveland (2020)
Tyler Cook Interior Rim Runner (1.05) 22.2 Medium 13.3 5.9 1.2 0.9 49.20 Cook played as a physical interior finisher whose offense was generated largely through rim pressure, transition chances and activity around the basket. His 59.1% field-goal shooting fits that role, while his 28-point performance during Canton’s collapse against Fort Wayne showed the scoring ceiling he could reach when given extended touches. Mad Ants Record Largest Comeback Victory in NBA G League History against Canton NBA Call-Up to Cleveland (2020)
Marques Bolden Rim-Protecting Centerpiece (1.05) 18.9 Low 9.7 6.8 1.2 1.7 40.74 Bolden’s impact was concentrated around the paint, where his length made him a natural rim protector and offensive-rebounding presence. He recorded multiple blocks while producing efficient interior offense, and his strong G League play earned a January NBA 10-day opportunity before Cleveland’s center depth limited his role upstairs. Marques Bolden: Resurfaces in G League NBA Call-Up to Cleveland (2020)
Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman Secondary Perimeter Scorer (1.0) 21.2 Low 7.2 2.6 1.9 0.9 25.20 Abdur-Rahkman filled a complementary perimeter role, spacing the floor and attacking selectively rather than dominating possessions. He could still provide scoring bursts when the rotation needed them; contemporary game coverage highlighted his ability to step forward offensively, including a 25-point performance in February. Charge Hold on for Fourth-Straight Win None
Dylan Windler Spot-Up Wing Prospect (1.0) 18.5 Low 6.5 4.0 0.5 1.0 24.00 Windler’s brief G League stint was primarily a developmental assignment built around perimeter shooting and rebounding from the wing. His season was derailed almost immediately by the lower-leg injury that had already interrupted training camp, leaving his two Canton appearances as a very small sample of the role Cleveland envisioned for him. Cavaliers’ Dylan Windler: Done for season None
Alex Robinson Backup Floor General (1.0) 16.0 Low 4.8 1.6 2.5 0.6 19.00 Robinson served as a reserve ball-handler whose main responsibility was to stabilize second-unit possessions rather than hunt his own offense. The limited scoring load alongside 2.5 assists reflects a pass-first profile, although contemporary coverage of this particular season was sparse. None; limited contemporary independent coverage available
Alan Herndon Stretch Frontcourt Reserve (1.0) 12.2 Low 4.5 2.0 0.6 0.7 15.60 Herndon’s role was that of a spacing-oriented frontcourt reserve, with the three-point shot allowing him to operate away from the lane despite modest playing time. His 40.0% three-point shooting in the supplied sample points to the value of that floor-spacing function, while contemporary independent reporting on his individual season was limited. Canton Charge Set 2019 Training Camp Roster None
Vincent Edwards Stretch Forward Reserve (1.0) 14.4 Low 3.4 2.4 1.0 0.3 14.20 Edwards arrived in Canton late in the season after playing a much larger offensive role with Oklahoma City, so his Charge stint was more about fitting into an established rotation than carrying creation duties. The reduced usage and perimeter-oriented profile suggest a complementary stretch-forward assignment, with limited independent reporting on his short Canton run. None
Alex Stein Deep-Bench Floor Spacer (1.0) 6.2 Low 2.2 0.9 0.4 0.2 7.40 Stein occupied a developmental depth role, with his limited minutes emphasizing spot-up opportunities and basic perimeter duties rather than sustained creation. Canton selected him in the 2019 G League Draft, but individual season reporting was sparse and his small workload makes broader role conclusions necessarily tentative. Canton Charge Set 2019 Training Camp Roster None
