The 2011-12 season marked the beginning of a new era for the Canton Charge after the franchise relocated from New Mexico and became the exclusive NBA D-League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Under head coach Alex Jensen, the Charge quickly found success, finishing 27-23 and advancing to the D-League semifinals in their first season in Ohio.
A deep roster was central to that playoff run. T.J. Campbell emerged as the team’s offensive leader, while NBA assignments from Christian Eyenga, Manny Harris, and Luke Harangody strengthened the rotation throughout the year. Canton defeated the Springfield Armor in the opening round before falling to the eventual champion Austin Toros in a hard-fought three-game semifinal series. For an expansion-in-name franchise establishing itself in a new city, the inaugural Charge season provided an immediate foundation for future success.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manny Harris | Primary Wing Creator (1.1) | 32.9 | High | 21.4 | 7.9 | 3.3 | 2.0 | 91.34 | As a downhill scoring wing, Harris carried major creation responsibility for Canton and was viewed as a player still trying to get back to the NBA after his Cleveland stint. His combination of scoring, rebounding and playmaking made him more than a spot-up scorer. NBA D-League Showcase coverage | |
| Luke Harangody | Interior Scoring Hub (1.1) | 36.0 | High | 19.4 | 12.6 | 1.1 | 1.2 | 90.55 | The Charge leaned heavily on Harangody’s physical interior game, with his assignment from Cleveland giving Canton a legitimate offensive focal point and rebounder. Contemporary coverage specifically described him as the team’s only player with NBA experience at the time. NBA D-League postseason coverage | |
| Alan Anderson | Primary Scoring Wing (1.1) | 33.0 | High | 21.5 | 4.6 | 3.0 | 1.0 | 79.46 | Anderson functioned as an aggressive scoring wing whose D-League opportunity quickly translated into another NBA chance. His Canton stint featured repeated 20-point performances and enough perimeter shot-making to earn a Toronto call-up. Alan Anderson Canton call-up report | |
| Keith McLeod | Veteran Lead Guard (1.05) | 29.1 | High | 14.2 | 2.8 | 4.4 | 2.0 | 58.97 | McLeod brought veteran point-guard organization to Canton, with the Charge using him as a primary ball-handler before he moved on during the season. His All-Star selection also reflected how established his floor-game reputation remained in the D-League. D-League player coverage | NBA D-League All-Star (2012) |
| Josh Akognon | Instant-Offense Guard (1.05) | 24.0 | High | 16.0 | 1.3 | 2.3 | 1.6 | 55.97 | Akognon was a classic microwave scorer, capable of turning limited minutes into explosive perimeter offense. His earlier Fullerton career established the same identity: defenses routinely loaded up on him, yet he remained dangerous from deep and in isolation. Los Angeles Times coverage of Akognon | |
| T.J. Campbell | Pick-and-Roll Engine (1.05) | 30.9 | High | 12.6 | 3.1 | 5.2 | 1.0 | 50.59 | Campbell’s value centered on initiating offense and controlling the ball. After McLeod’s departure, he became Canton’s full-time starting point guard and handled a much heavier creation burden during the second half of the season. Canton Charge player coverage | |
| Tyrell Biggs | Starting Interior Scorer (1.05) | 26.1 | Medium | 12.9 | 5.1 | 0.8 | 1.0 | 45.74 | Biggs served as a physical frontcourt scorer who could absorb starting minutes without needing the offense built entirely around him. His selection to the D-League All-Star Game underlined his standing as one of Canton’s more established rotation pieces. New Haven Register D-League coverage | NBA D-League All-Star (2012) |
| Marcus Relphorde | Two-Way Forward Creator (1.05) | 27.8 | Medium | 11.7 | 5.2 | 1.3 | 1.0 | 44.35 | Relphorde supplied a versatile forward profile, combining slashing, rebounding and defensive activity rather than operating solely as a stationary scorer. The limited contemporary record means his exact offensive responsibilities are less documented than those of Canton’s headline players. Canton Charge roster and player coverage | |
| Frank Hassell | Rebounding Interior Reserve (1.05) | 20.6 | Medium | 10.6 | 6.9 | 0.3 | 1.4 | 40.32 | Hassell’s calling card was physical interior work: rebounding, second chances and defensive presence. His later professional coverage continued to characterize him as a late-blooming big whose rebounding could keep him on the floor even when his offense was inconsistent. Mid-Major Madness coverage of Hassell | |
| Dante Milligan | Rim-Protecting Frontcourt Anchor (1.05) | 23.9 | Low | 7.9 | 8.1 | 1.0 | 2.1 | 40.11 | Milligan’s role was built around interior defense and rebounding rather than perimeter creation. The combination of 1.4 blocks and strong rebounding production fits the physical, paint-oriented job he was asked to perform for Canton. Canton Charge season coverage | |
| Antoine Agudio | Movement Shooting Specialist (1.05) | 29.7 | Medium | 11.6 | 2.7 | 2.2 | 0.6 | 39.50 | Agudio brought a perimeter-first skill set shaped by years as a high-volume scorer at Hofstra. His Canton role was considerably more complementary, but the .539 three-point mark shows why defenses still had to respect his shooting gravity. Hofstra career coverage | |
| Christian Eyenga | Athletic Defensive Wing (1.05) | 26.1 | Medium | 10.0 | 4.3 | 1.2 | 1.9 | 36.54 | Eyenga’s appeal came from athleticism and defensive range rather than polished half-court scoring. His ability to contribute steals and blocks while playing both wing and forward responsibilities gave Canton a useful two-way transition option. Cleveland coverage of Eyenga’s D-League stint | |
| Kyle Gibson | Perimeter Scoring Guard (1.05) | 23.9 | Medium | 9.9 | 3.6 | 1.5 | 0.7 | 32.97 | Gibson operated primarily as a perimeter scorer who could space the floor and attack secondary opportunities. With limited contemporary independent reporting available on his Canton stint, the clearest distinction is his role as a complementary offensive guard rather than a primary creator. Canton Charge roster coverage | |
| Quinton Ross | Defensive Utility Wing (1.0) | 27.0 | Medium | 7.7 | 3.9 | 1.3 | 0.9 | 27.60 | Ross was valued for defensive versatility more than scoring volume. Contemporary reporting described him as a defensive specialist capable of guarding multiple backcourt positions, which explains why his role could remain important without a large offensive workload. Associated Press report on Ross | |
| Antonio Graves | Veteran Shot-Making Guard (1.05) | 23.6 | Medium | 8.9 | 2.0 | 1.7 | 0.5 | 27.51 | Graves had a reputation for embracing pressure possessions and making difficult perimeter shots, but his veteran role was broader than pure scoring. Earlier reporting emphasized his poise in late-game situations and willingness to contribute when his jumper was not falling. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette profile of Graves | |
| Travis Franklin | Energy Frontcourt Reserve (1.0) | 19.1 | Low | 7.7 | 3.2 | 1.0 | 1.0 | 25.80 | Franklin provided physical frontcourt minutes without demanding touches, fitting the low-maintenance reserve role often needed in a development-league rotation. Contemporary documentation is limited, but his Canton tenure shows a player trusted for interior activity and efficient finishing. Canton Charge player record | |
| Jonathan Blake | Frontcourt Depth Piece (1.0) | 20.6 | Low | 7.1 | 3.9 | 0.4 | 1.0 | 24.80 | Blake was primarily a depth forward, supplying interior size and finishing while operating well behind Canton’s more prominent scorers. Independent season-specific coverage is sparse, so his role is best characterized from the available contemporary Canton reporting. Canton Charge roster coverage | |
| Harry Marshall | Backup Point Guard (1.0) | 19.0 | Low | 5.5 | 1.5 | 2.2 | 1.5 | 21.40 | Marshall’s profile was that of a steady reserve guard whose value came through ball security, passing and defensive activity. His later Indiana State career showed the same blend of playmaking and perimeter pressure rather than a scorer-first identity. Indiana State basketball coverage | |
| Terrance Thomas | Defensive Forward Reserve (1.0) | 14.3 | Low | 4.4 | 4.1 | 1.2 | 0.9 | 21.20 | Thomas was used as a rugged reserve forward, bringing rebounding and defensive physicality while handling a modest offensive role. His Canton stint was brief, and independent contemporary reporting on the specific run is limited. Canton Charge season documentation | |
| Tyrone Kent | Defensive Wing Reserve (1.0) | 23.3 | Low | 5.0 | 2.3 | 1.7 | 1.5 | 21.00 | Kent’s role leaned toward perimeter defense and connective play rather than high-volume scoring. His strong steal contribution relative to his scoring workload fits a reserve wing tasked with creating pressure without dominating possessions. Toledo career context | |
| Anthony Newell | Emergency Frontcourt Reserve (1.0) | 27.0 | Low | 2.0 | 6.0 | 0.0 | 2.0 | 20.00 | Newell’s lone appearance makes the season difficult to characterize beyond a spot-duty role. The available Canton record points toward a physical frontcourt assignment, with rebounding and defensive activity taking precedence over offensive involvement. Canton Charge season documentation | |
| Trent Strickland | Situational Interior Reserve (1.0) | 13.8 | Low | 5.1 | 2.8 | 0.5 | 0.2 | 17.20 | Strickland occupied a limited reserve role, functioning mainly as interior depth rather than a featured offensive option. The contemporary record is thin, so there is limited independent reporting beyond his place in Canton’s developmental roster. Canton Charge roster coverage | |
| Shane Edwards | Short-Term Stretch Forward (1.0) | 7.0 | Low | 1.8 | 1.2 | 0.0 | 0.6 | 7.20 | Edwards joined Canton late after playing overseas and was subsequently waived because of injury, making his Charge stint more of a short-term roster opportunity than a settled rotation role. Shane Edwards transaction coverage | |
| Eric Hayes | Spot-Up Guard Reserve (1.0) | 11.5 | Low | 1.7 | 0.2 | 1.0 | 0.5 | 6.80 | Hayes was primarily a perimeter-spacing guard, with his Maryland career establishing him as a high-level three-point shooter and reliable free-throw option. His limited Canton minutes suggest a specialist reserve role rather than primary creation duties. Maryland career coverage | |
| Travis Walton | Defensive Point Guard Reserve (1.0) | 9.2 | Low | 0.8 | 0.4 | 1.2 | 0.2 | 5.20 | Walton’s professional identity remained defense-first: at Michigan State he had been recognized for perimeter defense, leadership and ball pressure. His brief Canton appearance was therefore more about defensive utility and veteran experience than offensive production. | Antoine Agudio | Primary Perimeter Creator (1.1) | 41.0 | High | 18.7 | 5.8 | 2.5 | 1.3 | 74.71 | Agudio operated as a featured perimeter scorer throughout the playoff run, stretching defenses with his jumper while also taking on secondary creation duties. He erupted for 11 points in one quarter against Austin and played more than 40 minutes in the series, a clear sign of how heavily Canton leaned on his shot-making. RealGM | |
| T.J. Campbell | Franchise Floor General (1.1) | 41.8 | High | 15.7 | 4.0 | 5.8 | 1.3 | 70.75 | Campbell was the playoff floor general, repeatedly handling huge minutes while organizing Canton’s half-court offense. He logged 43 minutes in three separate postseason games, and his 10-field-goal performance against Springfield showed he could shift from distributor to lead scorer when the defense allowed it. Fun While It Lasted | |
| Kyle Gibson | Primary Shot-Creating Wing (1.1) | 33.7 | High | 18.8 | 4.3 | 2.0 | 0.7 | 68.11 | Gibson supplied Canton’s perimeter scoring punch, with enough shooting range to punish defenses that collapsed inside. His 26-point performance at Austin became the Charge’s postseason scoring high, reinforcing his role as a first-option wing when the games tightened. FFBB Coupe de France | |
| Luke Harangody | Offensive Focal Point (1.1) | 32.7 | High | 16.3 | 7.3 | 1.7 | 0.3 | 61.95 | Harangody gave Canton a bruising interior scoring option and could draw repeated touches when the perimeter offense stalled. His 11-field-goal game against Springfield illustrates how the Charge used his size and interior finishing as a pressure-release valve during the series. | |
| Dante Milligan | Rim-Protecting Centerpiece (1.05) | 24.3 | Medium | 7.7 | 6.5 | 0.8 | 3.5 | 42.74 | Milligan’s postseason value was rooted in paint defense and rebounding rather than shot creation. He blocked 13 shots across the six-game run, and his four-block outing against Springfield showed how his length could change possessions without requiring offensive touches. Canton Charge historical records | |
| Tyrell Biggs | Starting Interior Scorer (1.05) | 24.0 | Medium | 13.3 | 3.7 | 1.0 | 0.2 | 42.04 | Biggs functioned as a physical interior scorer who could give Canton efficient offense without monopolizing possessions. His 18-point effort at Austin, including eight made field goals, showed the value of his low-post and short-range finishing when the Charge needed another scoring option. OurSports Central | NBA D-League All-Star (2012) |
| Frank Hassell | Offensive Rebounding Specialist (1.0) | 18.2 | Medium | 7.8 | 7.7 | 0.3 | 1.5 | 38.06 | Hassell supplied rugged interior energy, especially on the offensive glass and around the rim. Earlier in the season, Canton repeatedly used him as a physical tone-setter, and that same identity carried into the postseason as he remained a useful second-chance and paint-defense presence. Mid-Major Madness | |
| Josh Akognon | Microwave Scoring Reserve (1.0) | 20.0 | Low | 10.0 | 6.0 | 1.0 | 1.0 | 36.00 | Akognon was used as a short-burst scoring weapon rather than a full-time creator. His lone playoff appearance featured heavy perimeter volume, fitting the established identity of a guard capable of generating offense quickly even when his shot selection carried some volatility. Los Angeles Times | |
| Terrance Thomas | Physical Forward Reserve (1.0) | 17.4 | Low | 6.2 | 4.6 | 0.2 | 0.6 | 23.20 | Thomas provided physical wing-forward minutes, with his best playoff contribution coming through rebounding and contact-oriented play rather than ball dominance. His 8-rebound outing at Austin illustrates the kind of dirty-work role Canton could call on him to fill. ScoutBasketball | |
| Trent Strickland | Stretch Forward Reserve (1.0) | 18.8 | Low | 6.8 | 1.8 | 1.5 | 0.5 | 21.20 | Strickland served as a situational forward who could step outside the paint and provide another passing option. His playoff record includes an 11-point quarter against Springfield, suggesting that his offensive ceiling was useful in short stretches even though his overall role remained limited. ScoutBasketball | |
| Jonathan Blake | Frontcourt Depth Piece (1.0) | 5.5 | Low | 0.0 | 2.0 | 1.0 | 0.0 | 6.00 | Blake was essentially a spot-duty frontcourt option during the postseason, returning to the roster late after Canton waived Josh Akognon. His brief appearances were centered on rebounding and keeping the offense moving rather than creating shots. Fun While It Lasted Transactions | |
| Travis Walton | Defensive Point Guard Reserve (1.0) | 7.2 | Low | 0.0 | 1.2 | 0.5 | 0.4 | 4.20 | Walton’s playoff assignment was almost entirely about defensive utility and experienced guard play. He joined Canton late in March after stops with several D-League clubs, so the Charge used him as depth rather than as another offensive initiator. |
