Steph Curry is the best shooter in the NBA today. But his Warriors face a difficult matchup against the Rockets in the 2024-25 NBS Playoffs. Historically as basketball players, we think of a player getting the ball back and continuing to shoot if they are heating up as wise because they’re getting hot and using the current feel for the ball to get more shots in. However, where Steph gets a lot of his success is actually resting his body and then after a couple of minutes, shooting another shot that surprises the opponent. The reason he does this is because he understands that resting his body so that it’s not fatigued is the secret to his next shot dropping. The worst outside shots you can take are the ones you take when you’re tired. If you are fatigued and putting up outside shots, you are essentially putting up bad shots. And I see players putting up outside shots while tired all the time. I don’t think that the average NBA player in their 20s understands this, and I don’t think the average NBA coach or manager understands it either. If you want to defeat the Warriors, the key is to understand when Steph is resting and then play tight defense when he is due to score after his rest. 4/26/2025

Notes:

  • Steph Curry’s listed height with shoes is approximately 6 feet 3 inches (191 cm). Without shoes, his height is officially measured at 6 feet 2 inches (188 cm).
  • Steph Curry’s playing weight is listed at 185 pounds (84 kg).
  • Similar players to Steph Curry include Ray Allen and Reggie Miller.
  • Stephen Curry is one of the rare NBA players who managed to change the game considerably. Before Curry’s time, NBA players did not shoot as many three-point shots. Curry and the Golden State Warriors during his time were known for shooting a lot of threes and it made other general managers around the league adjust their strategies to also shoot more threes.
  • Steph Curry began his NBA career wearing Nike basketball shoes. Curry joined the NBA in 2009-10 and he wore Nike until the end of the 2012-13 season. Since 2013, he has worn Under Armour. Back in those days, Under Armour was not a well-known brand it was Curry that elevated that brand a lot. In 2024, Under Armour was worn by 2.4% of NBA players.
  • Steph Curry wore size 14 shoes up until his rookie season in the NBA. Size 14 was his Dad, Dell Curry’s, shoe size and Steph told himself that he was the same size. He later dropped down to a 12.5 when playing in the NBA.
  • While Steph Curry was still in the NBA, he had changed the game so much and so rapidly that no matter what position you play, you’re expected to be able to shoot the basketball from long range. And we saw many power forwards and centers develop a reliable three-point shot because of it. Nobody knew it was possible to learn how to shoot the basketball from long range by practicing alone before Curry did it. There were other great three-point shooters in the past, but it was assumed they were born with the talent more than anything. Take nothing away from Curry’s talent, but it has become more obvious since Curry’s time, that practice makes perfect in this area of basketball.
