The 2009–10 season marked a challenging period for the Detroit Pistons. Under new head coach John Kuester, the team underwent significant roster changes, including the return of Ben Wallace and the acquisition of free agents Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva. Despite these additions, the Pistons struggled with injuries and inconsistent play, leading to their worst record since the 1994–95 season. The team missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2000–01 season, signaling the end of an era and the beginning of a rebuilding phase.
