The 2005–06 Boston Celtics were led by Paul Pierce, who carried the offense as the team’s primary scorer and playmaker, while Ricky Davis provided consistent secondary scoring. Al Jefferson emerged as the leading rebounder and an increasingly important interior contributor, with Delonte West adding ball-handling and perimeter production. Boston played through its perimeter creators but struggled with defensive consistency despite respectable rebounding from its young frontcourt.

The All-Star forward generated offense in nearly every situation and remained the clear focal point of opposing scouting reports. | NBA All-Star (2006) |
| Ricky Davis | Starter/Star | 41.6 | High | 19.7 | 4.5 | 5.3 | 1.4 | 81.0 | Operating as a high-possession scoring guard, Davis handled major creation duties before being traded midseason. | Wally Szczerbiak | Starter/Star | 36.7 | High | 17.5 | 3.8 | 3.2 | 0.7 | 66.5 | Working primarily as a scoring wing, Szczerbiak stretched defenses with efficient perimeter shooting and smart off-ball movement. His scoring punch gave Boston another reliable option whenever healthy. | — |

| Mark Blount | Starter/Star | 27.8 | Medium | 12.4 | 4.2 | 1.7 | 1.3 | 47.4 | Playing as an offense-first center, Blount provided interior scoring and a reliable mid-range jumper. His touch around the basket remained useful, though consistency was often an issue throughout the season. | — |
| Raef LaFrentz | Starter/Star | 24.8 | Medium | 7.8 | 5.0 | 1.4 | 1.3 | 37.1 | A classic stretch big before the role became common, LaFrentz spaced the floor with three-point shooting while also offering weak-side rim protection. His versatility helped diversify Boston’s frontcourt lineups. | — |
| Ryan Gomes | Key Contributor | 22.6 | Medium | 7.6 | 4.9 | 1.0 | 0.7 | 32.7 | Rather than forcing offense, Gomes leaned on positioning, rebounding and efficient finishing. The rookie forward looked comfortable filling gaps and making winning plays without needing designed touches. | NBA All-Rookie First Team (2006), ROY-9 |
| Kendrick Perkins | Key Contributor | 19.6 | Low | 5.2 | 5.9 | 1.0 | 1.8 | 29.2 | Anchoring the paint with physicality, Perkins focused on screening, rebounding and interior defense. His offensive role stayed modest, but his toughness inside became increasingly important. | — |
| Tony Allen | Key Contributor | 19.2 | Medium | 7.2 | 2.2 | 1.3 | 1.4 | 27.9 | An energetic defensive guard, Allen changed possessions with pressure defense and aggressive drives. His athletic style occasionally produced chaos, but it also brought needed intensity to the second unit. | NBA Rookie Challenge Participant (2006) |
| Al Jefferson | Key Contributor | 18.0 | Medium | 7.9 | 5.1 | 0.5 | 1.3 | 34.0 | Showing flashes of the low-post skill that would later define his career, Jefferson scored efficiently around the rim and rebounded well in limited minutes. His touch and footwork already stood out for a young big man. | Rookie Challenge Participant (2006) |
| Marcus Banks | Bench | 14.9 | Low | 5.5 | 1.1 | 1.8 | 0.4 | 17.6 | Banks supplied occasional scoring bursts from the backcourt and played with noticeable speed in transition. His role fluctuated, but he could inject pace when called upon. | — |
| Orien Greene | Bench | 15.4 | Low | 3.2 | 1.8 | 1.6 | 1.1 | 15.4 | Used mostly as a reserve guard, Greene relied on defensive pressure and ball movement more than scoring. His length helped create turnovers despite limited offensive production. | — |
| Gerald Green | Bench | 11.7 | Low | 5.2 | 1.3 | 0.6 | 0.5 | 15.2 | Raw but undeniably explosive, Green offered highlight-level athleticism and instant offense in short stretches. The rookie’s upside was evident even as he adjusted to NBA decision-making. | NBA Slam Dunk Contest Participant (2006) |
| Brian Scalabrine | Bench | 13.2 | Low | 2.9 | 1.6 | 0.7 | 0.6 | 11.6 | Filling a utility forward role, Scalabrine contributed spacing and positional flexibility. His value came more from lineup balance than individual box-score production. | — |
| Dan Dickau | Bench | 12.3 | Low | 3.3 | 0.8 | 2.1 | 0.7 | 13.8 | A pass-first reserve guard, Dickau helped organize second-unit possessions and knocked down perimeter shots when opportunities appeared. | — |
| Michael Olowokandi | Bench | 10.4 | Low | 2.8 | 2.6 | 0.4 | 0.6 | 12.8 | Serving as depth in the middle, Olowokandi provided size and occasional rim protection in a limited role after injuries reduced his overall impact. | — |
| Justin Reed | Bench | 9.1 | Low | 2.3 | 0.9 | 0.2 | 0.3 | 7.4 | Reed spent most of his minutes supplying wing depth and defensive effort. Offensive opportunities were limited, leaving little room to establish rhythm. | — |
| Dwayne Jones | Bench | 6.2 | Low | 1.0 | 2.2 | 0.1 | 0.3 | 7.2 | A hustle-oriented reserve big, Jones focused on rebounding and physical interior play whenever he saw the floor. | — |
| TEAM TOTALS | — | 242.4 | — | 98.0 | 39.6 | 20.9 | 12.1 | 615.5 | Boston relied heavily on Pierce while integrating several young contributors, with injuries and roster turnover preventing the club from finding sustained consistency despite flashes from its emerging core. | — |
