The 1981–82 Washington Bullets were built around Jeff Ruland, whose efficient scoring, elite rebounding, and interior presence anchored the team at both ends of the floor. Greg Ballard provided dependable secondary scoring and strong work on the glass, while Kevin Grevey stretched the defense with perimeter scoring and Tom Henderson handled primary playmaking. Washington relied on a balanced attack, combining frontcourt strength, rebounding, and efficient offensive production.
