The 1990–91 Sacramento Kings were built around Lionel Simmons, whose scoring, rebounding, and playmaking made him the team’s most complete contributor, while Antoine Carr supplied consistent interior scoring and Spud Webb directed the offense as the primary facilitator. Sacramento played at an up-tempo pace and generated balanced offensive production, but poor defensive performance and inefficient overall play prevented the team from translating its offensive contributions into sustained success.

Lionel Simmons Starter/Star [1.1] 37.7 High [1.2] 18.0 8.8 4.0 2.5 87.91 Functioned as Sacramento’s do-everything rookie forward, handling creation duties, rebounding traffic, and defending multiple positions. Coverage of his debut season regularly highlighted how quickly “L-Train” became a focal point despite joining a struggling roster, with his versatility standing out more than any single statistic. (Wikipedia) All-Rookie First Team (1991), Rookie of the Year Runner-Up (1991)
Wayman Tisdale Starter/Star [1.1] 33.8 High [1.2] 20.0 7.7 2.0 1.5 82.37 Operated as a polished interior scorer whose touch and face-up game remained difficult to defend when healthy. His season was interrupted by injury, but Sacramento still leaned heavily on his ability to generate offense from the frontcourt. (Wikipedia)
Antoine Carr Starter/Star [1.1] 32.8 High [1.2] 20.1 5.5 2.5 1.9 79.20 Worked as the club’s primary power scorer, using strength and mid-range touch to carry large stretches of the offense. Contemporary accounts and retrospective coverage noted that this was the most productive scoring period of his NBA career. (Wikipedia)
Travis Mays Starter/Star [1.1] 33.5 Medium [1.1] 14.3 2.8 4.0 1.5 54.69 Asked to learn on the fly as a rookie lead guard, balancing perimeter shooting with playmaking responsibilities. His role often involved stabilizing an inexperienced backcourt while providing secondary scoring. (Wikipedia) All-Rookie Second Team (1991)
Rory Sparrow Starter/Star [1.1] 29.7 Medium [1.1] 10.4 2.3 4.5 1.2 44.53 Served as the veteran organizer of the offense, bringing structure and decision-making to a young roster. Reports from the period noted that he experienced a revival in Sacramento after arriving from Miami. (Wikipedia)
Jim Les Key Contributor [1.05] 25.4 Medium [1.1] 7.2 2.0 5.4 1.1 36.27 Provided instant offensive rhythm off the bench, stretching defenses with outside shooting while directing second-unit possessions. His passing and floor spacing helped balance lineups lacking natural creators. (Wikipedia)
Duane Causwell Key Contributor [1.05] 22.6 Low [1.0] 6.9 5.1 0.9 2.5 32.34 Filled a defense-first role as a rookie center, protecting the rim and handling physical interior assignments. His shot-blocking presence was often more valuable than his modest offensive workload. (Wikipedia)
Anthony Bonner Key Contributor [1.05] 22.1 Low [1.0] 7.4 4.7 1.4 1.2 30.87 Played with energy as a reserve forward, attacking rebounds and bringing defensive activity whenever healthy. Injuries limited his opportunities, but his motor consistently stood out. (Wikipedia)
Bill Wennington Key Contributor [1.05] 18.9 Low [1.0] 5.7 4.4 0.9 1.4 26.04 Functioned as a rotational big whose value came from size, screening, and interior support rather than shot creation. Sacramento used him to absorb frontcourt minutes and provide stability. (Wikipedia)
Bob Hansen Key Contributor [1.05] 22.5 Low [1.0] 6.4 2.7 2.5 0.7 25.83 Worked primarily as a complementary wing, spacing the floor and filling supporting assignments around higher-usage scorers. His veteran experience helped a roster loaded with young players. (Wikipedia)
Leon Wood Bench [1.0] 18.5 Low [1.0] 6.8 1.6 4.1 0.4 25.80 Operated as a reserve guard who prioritized ball movement and perimeter shooting. In limited appearances, he provided competent playmaking without needing many possessions.
Anthony Frederick Bench [1.0] 13.6 Low [1.0] 5.1 2.4 1.3 1.0 19.60 Filled a low-usage wing role focused on effort plays, defensive coverage, and supplementary scoring rather than featured offensive responsibilities.
Ralph Sampson Bench [1.0] 13.9 Low [1.0] 3.0 4.4 0.7 1.1 18.40 By this stage injuries had greatly reduced his mobility and workload. Sacramento mainly used the former star as an experienced frontcourt reserve rather than a centerpiece.
Steve Colter Bench [1.0] 13.2 Low [1.0] 3.1 1.4 1.9 0.7 14.20 Served as emergency backcourt depth, handling basic organizational duties and keeping possessions under control in short stretches.
Eric Leckner Bench [1.0] 11.8 Low [1.0] 2.9 2.7 0.6 0.4 13.20 Occupied a limited reserve-center role before being moved during the season, contributing size and rebounding in brief appearances. (Wikipedia)
Rick Calloway Bench [1.0] 10.6 Low [1.0] 3.2 1.2 1.0 0.4 11.60 Provided depth on the wing, generally playing within the offense and supplying defensive effort more than offensive production.
Mike Higgins Bench [1.0] 8.7 Low [1.0] 2.3 0.7 0.3 0.3 7.20 Appeared only briefly and spent most of the year outside the regular rotation, making evaluation difficult because of the small sample size.
Tony Dawson Bench [1.0] 4.3 Low [1.0] 2.3 0.5 0.0 0.0 5.60 Saw very limited action, functioning as end-of-bench depth rather than a consistent part of Sacramento’s nightly plans.
