Syracuse women’s basketball has had multiple eras of greatness, from the program’s early Big East breakthrough teams to the Orange’s rise into national contention under Quentin Hillsman and beyond. The strongest Syracuse legends are the players who either owned the record book, reached All-America level, or pushed the program to historic milestones like its first NCAA Tournament berth, first ACC Player of the Year, and the 2016 national title game run. That makes this one of the deeper women’s legends lists in the country. Syracuse has had excellent players outside the top five too, but the names below have the clearest combination of production, honors, and program-shaping impact. (Syracuse University Athletics)
1. Kayla Alexander
- Years with Syracuse Orange: 2009–2013
- Position: Center
- Notable achievements:
- Syracuse all-time leading scorer
- Syracuse all-time leader in blocks
- First player in program history to score 2,000 career points
- AP All-America honorable mention
- Jersey retired by Syracuse in 2024
Kayla Alexander has the strongest case for the top spot because she paired historic production with major national recognition. She finished her career with 2,024 points, 350 blocks, 736 field goals made, and 552 free throws made, while also ranking second in rebounds with 970. She was the first player in program history to reach 2,000 points, became the face of Syracuse’s rise in the early 2010s, and later had her jersey retired, which usually settles any real debate about legendary status. 2. Alexis Peterson
- Years with Syracuse Orange: 2013–2017
- Position: Guard
- Notable achievements:
- 2017 ACC Player of the Year
- Syracuse all-time leader in assists
- Second in program history in scoring
- 2017 WBCA All-America Team
- Led Syracuse to the 2016 NCAA championship game
Alexis Peterson was the engine behind the greatest team in Syracuse women’s basketball history. She became the first player in program history to win conference player of the year honors when she was named the 2017 ACC Player of the Year, and she left school with 1,978 points and the program assist record. More than that, she was the lead guard on the 2016 team that broke through to the national title game, which gives her résumé both elite individual value and unmatched postseason weight. 3. Felisha Legette-Jack
- Years with Syracuse Orange: 1984–1989
- Position: Forward
- Notable achievements:
- Syracuse’s first two-time honorable mention All-American
- BIG EAST Freshman of the Year
- Helped lead Syracuse to its first BIG EAST title
- Helped lead Syracuse to its first NCAA Tournament appearance
- First female student-athlete in Syracuse history to have her jersey retired
Felisha Legette-Jack is one of the foundational figures in Syracuse women’s basketball history. She scored 1,526 points and grabbed 927 rebounds, becoming one of only three players in program history with more than 1,500 points and 900 rebounds, and she was central to Syracuse’s first major breakthrough as a program. The fact that she helped deliver the school’s first Big East championship and first NCAA Tournament appearance, then later became the first female student-athlete in school history to have her jersey retired, makes her place on this list automatic. 4. Erica Morrow
- Years with Syracuse Orange: 2007–2011
- Position: Guard
- Notable achievements:
- Syracuse all-time leader in minutes played
- Second in Syracuse career scoring at the time of graduation
- One of the most versatile guards in program history
- Key figure in Syracuse’s early postseason rise under Quentin Hillsman
Erica Morrow belongs in the upper tier because she was one of the most complete backcourt players the program has produced. She finished her career with 1,658 points and a school-record 4,163 minutes, while also ranking near the top of the program in games played, starts, assists, steals, and other major categories. She may not have the single-season headline awards that some others had, but her longevity, all-around game, and central role in Syracuse’s rise make her one of the safest legends picks on the board. (Syracuse University Athletics)
5. Nicole Michael
- Years with Syracuse Orange: 2006–2010
- Position: Forward
- Notable achievements:
- Former Syracuse all-time leading scorer
- Former Syracuse all-time leading rebounder
- Syracuse’s first Associated Press All-American
- First Team All-BIG EAST selection
Nicole Michael has one of the best individual résumés in program history and would rank even higher in some arguments. She finished her career with 1,787 points and 996 rebounds, and at the time she left Syracuse she was the program’s all-time leader in both categories. She was also Syracuse’s first Associated Press All-American, which matters because it marked a major step in the national legitimacy of the program before the Orange hit their later peak.
