Player Archetype / Play Style

Devin Vassell’s player archetype is that of a modern two-way wing, the kind of perimeter scorer-defender blend teams want because he can space the floor, guard across multiple matchups, and still create a bit more offense than a pure specialist. Defensively, he profiles best as a long, disruptive wing stopper who can contest jumpers, jump passing lanes, and stay involved both on the ball and in help. Offensively, he brings value as a catch-and-shoot threat, secondary shot-maker, and complementary scorer who can flow into pull-ups and attack openings without needing every possession built around him. His physical traits have long stood out too: a rangy frame, plus length, fluid movement, and enough athletic pop to bother shooters and finish plays above the rim. Put together, his play style reads as a versatile 3-and-D-plus wing with scalable offense, where the jumper, defensive instincts, and connective skill give him a clean fit next to higher-usage stars. Player Insights

I rate Devin Vassell very highly as a shooting guard. But due to the Spurs trading for De’Aaron Fox, he’s now the starting small forward instead. I don’t love De’Aaron Fox as a shooting guard, nor do I love Devin Vassell as a small forward. If they can both master their unnatural positions, however, I think the Spurs can shoot up the rankings. Currently, they’re in the bottom half of the league defensively, and it’s holding them back. The one good thing about the current situation is that De’Aaron Fox would match up well with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander if the Spurs were to play against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the playoffs. 2/10/2025
