The Delaware Blue Coats’ 2023-24 season was defined by change. Just one year after winning the G League championship, Delaware entered the year with a largely new roster and leaned heavily on players seeking to establish themselves within the Philadelphia 76ers system or earn opportunities elsewhere. Guard Terquavion Smith emerged as one of the league’s most dynamic young scorers, regularly carrying a significant offensive workload, while Ricky Council IV flashed the athleticism and attacking style that would eventually earn him NBA minutes. Two-way players and assignments frequently reshaped the rotation, making continuity difficult to maintain over the course of the season. Even so, the Blue Coats remained a competitive presence in the Eastern Conference and continued their reputation for providing meaningful developmental opportunities for prospects on the edge of the NBA.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Darius Bazley | Two-Way Frontcourt Engine (1.1) | 37.6 | High | 24.2 | 11.6 | 2.6 | 5.2 | 115.10 | A versatile frontcourt hub who combined downhill scoring with high-level rim protection and defensive playmaking. His ability to rebound outside his area and generate blocks and steals made him unusually influential on both ends; the season also included a 36-point, 9-rebound, 4-steal, 3-block performance during Delaware’s push at the top of the East. Sporting News | NBA G League All-Showcase Team (2024); NBA G League Second Team (2024); NBA G League All-Defensive Team (2024); NBA G League Next Up Game (2024) |
| Ricky Council IV | Primary Wing Creator (1.1) | 35.7 | High | 24.3 | 5.3 | 1.7 | 2.1 | 88.18 | A powerful downhill wing whose value came from putting pressure on the rim, crashing the glass and stretching defenses with enough three-point range to prevent opponents from loading up. His G League stint became a proving ground for a scoring profile that translated into an NBA rotation opportunity later in the season. Crossing Broad | — |
| David Duke Jr. | Lead Two-Way Creator (1.1) | 31.5 | High | 21.7 | 5.8 | 3.7 | 1.4 | 86.06 | Duke functioned as a sizeable primary creator, using his 6-foot-5 frame to blend scoring, rebounding and secondary playmaking rather than operating as a pure scorer. The 11-game Delaware sample was enough to earn an NBA call-up, reflecting how much offensive responsibility he could shoulder in the G League. NBA G League | — |
| Ja’Vonte Smart | Franchise Floor General (1.1) | 34.6 | High | 20.9 | 3.9 | 5.4 | 1.3 | 83.16 | Smart’s clearest value was orchestration: he could initiate offense, create advantages off the dribble and keep the ball moving while still supplying scoring punch. His Delaware stint ended when he moved to Europe, so the sample captures a lead-guard role rather than a long uninterrupted season. RealGM | — |
| Terquavion Smith | High-Volume Shot Creator (1.1) | 30.1 | High | 20.9 | 3.4 | 2.6 | 1.1 | 73.92 | Smith operated as Delaware’s high-difficulty perimeter scorer, comfortable pulling up from deep and attacking possessions where the offense needed a difficult shot. That aggressive creation carried into his recognition as one of the G League’s top rookies, while his six-threes, 28-point outing against Maine showed the ceiling of the role. Sports Illustrated | NBA G League All-Rookie Team (2024) |
| Jaden Springer | Defensive Shot-Creating Guard (1.1) | 23.0 | High | 19.0 | 4.0 | 2.0 | 3.0 | 73.92 | In this tiny sample, Springer looked like a pressure guard whose value came from attacking the basket while generating disruptive defensive possessions. The sample is too small for broad conclusions, but his prior Delaware role was built around aggressive scoring and point-of-attack defense, including a G League Finals MVP performance the previous season. CBS Sports | — |
| Melvin Frazier Jr. | Starting Two-Way Wing (1.05) | 28.9 | Medium | 8.4 | 7.4 | 2.2 | 1.5 | 45.05 | Frazier was primarily a defensive-minded wing and rebounder who supplied connective offense without demanding possessions. His length and activity gave Delaware another switchable defender, while a 21-point, 10-rebound performance against Maine showed that he could become an offensive factor when the matchup opened up. OurSports Central | — |
| Chris Clarke | Rebounding Connector (1.05) | 22.6 | Low | 6.4 | 7.3 | 3.1 | 1.3 | 38.01 | Clarke’s role was built around doing the connective work: rebounding, moving the ball and defending multiple positions rather than hunting shots. His forward play helped Delaware maintain lineup balance around higher-usage guards, and the open-tryout route into the roster made his rotation role particularly valuable. Texas Tech | — |
| Jarron Cumberland | Defensive Glue Guard (1.0) | 18.8 | Low | 3.6 | 3.3 | 1.9 | 1.1 | 19.80 | Cumberland’s impact came more from toughness and defensive activity than volume scoring. In a shorthanded February win, he was trusted to make the decisive play, driving for the game-winning basket while also producing a disruptive defensive performance. WITN Channel 22 | — |
| Jared Brownridge | Veteran Movement Shooter (1.0) | 14.9 | Low | 6.1 | 1.2 | 1.6 | 0.5 | 18.80 | Brownridge supplied veteran spacing and movement shooting, giving Delaware a reliable perimeter outlet around its younger creators. His long G League tenure made him a stabilizing presence on a roster with considerable turnover, while his 24-point, seven-three performance against Motor City showed the scoring burst still available from that specialist role. The Philadelphia Inquirer | — |
| Aminu Mohammed | Energy Reserve Wing (1.0) | 10.6 | Low | 4.1 | 2.9 | 0.5 | 1.3 | 17.60 | Mohammed’s minutes were geared toward energy, physical rebounding and defensive activity rather than shot creation. He could inject athleticism into second-unit possessions, with his limited offensive workload keeping the role clearly complementary. | — |
| Patrick McCaw | Veteran Defensive Utility Wing (1.0) | 19.1 | Low | 2.5 | 2.2 | 1.9 | 1.2 | 15.60 | McCaw brought veteran defensive instincts and lineup flexibility to a developmental roster. His value was less about scoring than covering multiple perimeter assignments, moving the ball and providing a calm presence in a league where rotations can change quickly. | — |
| Derek Culver | Interior Depth Piece (1.0) | 10.6 | Low | 2.8 | 2.9 | 0.1 | 0.7 | 13.00 | Culver was used primarily as interior depth, giving Delaware a physical body around the rim and a source of second-chance opportunities. With limited minutes and no starts, the sample supports a reserve-center evaluation rather than a larger offensive role. | — |
| Jeff Dowtin | Emergency Lead Guard (1.0) | 17.0 | Low | 2.0 | 1.0 | 2.0 | 0.0 | 10.00 | This one-game sample is unusually small, but Dowtin’s established G League profile was that of a steady lead guard capable of organizing an offense and creating for teammates. His later Blue Coats run demonstrated that the organization viewed him as a genuine primary ball-handler when available. Forbes | — |
| Marcus Bagley | Offensive Spark Reserve (1.0) | 9.5 | Low | 2.0 | 2.5 | 0.3 | 0.0 | 9.60 | Bagley’s role was limited, but he could provide an offensive jolt when given an extended stretch. In one notable comeback win he supplied 16 points off the bench, illustrating the scoring punch available even from a low-minute reserve role. Delaware LIVE News | — |

| Ricky Council IV | Primary Wing Creator (1.1) | 32.0 | High (1.2) | 23.1 | 5.2 | 2.2 | 1.2 | 83.69 | Council was the aggressive downhill wing Delaware could hand the ball to when a possession needed force. His development from an athletic prospect into a more complete scorer helped earn a standard NBA contract, with his G League run featuring repeated 30-point performances and reliable perimeter shooting. The Philadelphia Inquirer — Ricky Council IV makes the most of his time with the Sixers | — |
| Terquavion Smith | High-Volume Perimeter Creator (1.1) | 31.1 | High (1.2) | 23.1 | 2.7 | 3.8 | 1.9 | 83.16 | Smith played with the freedom of a primary shot-maker, willingly taking difficult threes and creating late-clock offense while also showing more playmaking than his scoring-first reputation suggests. A seven-assist outing against Motor City illustrated that he could bend a defense without simply hunting his own shot. NBA G League — East-Leading Blue Coats Keep Rolling | NBA G League All-Rookie Team (2024) |
| Jeff Dowtin | Lead Pick-and-Roll Organizer (1.1) | 32.5 | High (1.2) | 19.1 | 2.8 | 5.3 | 1.5 | 75.77 | Dowtin was Delaware’s stabilizing ball-handler, combining downhill aggression with a low-mistake approach and enough shooting to keep the floor open. His 41-point playoff performance against Maine, alongside eight assists and seven rebounds, showed how much offensive responsibility he could absorb when the stakes rose. Forbes — Sixers Working The Roster Margins With Ricky Council IV, Jeff Dowtin Jr. | — |
| Ja’Vonte Smart | Lead Guard Initiator (1.1) | 34.2 | High (1.2) | 18.5 | 2.5 | 4.7 | 1.0 | 70.49 | Smart’s value centered on initiating offense and keeping Delaware’s attack organized, with enough pull-up shooting to prevent defenses from ignoring him. His brief six-game sample is unusually concentrated, so the profile is best read as a snapshot of a lead-guard assignment rather than a full-season role. ShamSports — Javonte Smart | — |
| Kai Jones | Rim-Running Frontcourt Weapon (1.05) | 24.0 | Medium (1.1) | 11.0 | 7.5 | 3.5 | 3.5 | 58.91 | Jones provided explosive interior athleticism in a very small sample, with his value coming from rim pressure, rebounding and weak-side defensive activity rather than perimeter creation. Because the stint lasted only two games, the numbers point to what he supplied immediately rather than a sustainable long-term role. Limited independent season coverage was available. The Philadelphia Inquirer — Sixers vs. Jazz injury updates | — |
| Melvin Frazier Jr. | Starting Defensive Wing (1.05) | 29.3 | Medium (1.1) | 10.8 | 7.3 | 1.8 | 2.1 | 50.82 | Frazier was a physical two-way wing whose biggest value came from defending, rebounding and filling gaps around higher-usage scorers. His 21-point, 10-rebound showing against Maine illustrated the extra offensive value he could provide without changing the basic defensive-first identity of his role. Limited independent season coverage was available. | — |
| Jarron Cumberland | Versatile Two-Way Connector (1.05) | 26.4 | Medium (1.1) | 11.1 | 4.5 | 3.7 | 2.2 | 49.67 | Cumberland’s unusual versatility let Delaware use him as a connector, secondary handler and physical defender. His eight-steal game against Motor City showed how disruptive he could become when the Blue Coats were able to turn his activity into transition opportunities. NBA G League — East-Leading Blue Coats Keep Rolling | — |
| Aminu Mohammed | Athletic Slashing Wing (1.05) | 23.3 | Medium (1.1) | 10.0 | 5.8 | 2.0 | 1.0 | 43.43 | Mohammed supplied athleticism and physicality from the wing, attacking gaps rather than functioning as a perimeter-volume scorer. His rebounding and defensive activity allowed him to contribute without needing many designed possessions. Limited independent contemporary coverage was available. | — |
| Patrick McCaw | Veteran Defensive Organizer (1.05) | 28.3 | Medium (1.1) | 8.6 | 3.5 | 2.8 | 1.4 | 37.65 | McCaw’s veteran value showed up in defensive positioning, ball movement and lineup flexibility more than scoring volume. His ability to generate two steals in the opening quarter against Westchester helped establish the defensive tone in one of Delaware’s early-season wins. Limited independent season coverage was available. Delaware Blue Coats — Coats Knock out Knicks | — |
| Rob Edwards | Movement Shooting Guard (1.0) | 21.6 | Medium (1.1) | 10.4 | 2.1 | 1.3 | 1.2 | 33.00 | Edwards functioned as a perimeter scoring option whose value depended heavily on shot-making and spacing. His short Delaware stint ended with an opportunity overseas in Australia, where Cairns targeted him after his G League run. Cairns Taipans — Taipans secure second NBL25 import | — |
| Marcus Bagley | Scoring Forward Reserve (1.0) | 22.4 | Low (1.0) | 8.4 | 5.3 | 0.7 | 1.1 | 31.00 | Bagley was a low-volume forward who could provide a useful scoring burst when injuries or roster movement opened extra minutes. His 16-point contribution during Delaware’s comeback win against Austin showed the bench scoring punch he could provide in short stretches. WITN — Bluecoats Stage Remarkable Comeback | — |
| Jared Brownridge | Veteran Floor-Spacing Specialist (1.05) | 24.8 | Medium (1.1) | 9.5 | 1.7 | 1.6 | 0.5 | 30.72 | Brownridge served as a veteran shooting specialist who stretched defenses and gave Delaware a steady perimeter release valve. His seventh consecutive season with the Blue Coats made him one of the roster’s rare continuity pieces in a league defined by constant player movement. The Philadelphia Inquirer — Jared Brownridge keeps fighting for his NBA dream | — |
| Chris Clarke | Rebounding Forward Connector (1.0) | 18.7 | Low (1.0) | 4.8 | 5.3 | 2.8 | 1.2 | 28.20 | Clarke played the connective-forward role, doing the dirty work on the glass while facilitating and defending without demanding touches. The open-tryout route into Delaware also reflected the developmental nature of his opportunity. Limited independent contemporary coverage was available. | — |
| Quinton Rose | Perimeter Scoring Reserve (1.0) | 13.8 | Low (1.0) | 5.1 | 2.4 | 1.4 | 1.0 | 19.80 | Rose provided a reserve scoring option after joining Delaware from the player pool in March. With only eight appearances, the sample is too small for a broader evaluation, but his three-point shooting gave the second unit a potential spacing outlet. Limited independent season coverage was available. | — |
| Daniel Giddens | Emergency Frontcourt Reserve (1.0) | 4.0 | Low (1.0) | 3.0 | 0.0 | 0.0 | 1.0 | 8.00 | Giddens had only a one-game appearance, so the evidence supports nothing more ambitious than an emergency frontcourt role. His brief stint came after Delaware claimed him from the player pool in March. Limited independent season coverage was available. | — |
| Mike Watkins | Physical Depth Center (1.0) | 5.5 | Low (1.0) | 1.0 | 0.5 | 0.0 | 0.0 | 3.00 | Watkins was a deep frontcourt option whose opportunities were extremely limited. Delaware acquired him through a March waiver claim, leaving too little game exposure to make a stronger role judgment. Limited independent season coverage was available. | — |

| Jeff Dowtin | Franchise Floor General (1.1) | 40.5 | High (1.2) | 32.5 | 6.0 | 8.0 | 3.0 | 135.96 | As Delaware’s primary initiator, Dowtin controlled the playoff offense with a blend of downhill scoring, pull-up shooting and table-setting. His 8.0 assists came without sacrificing scoring pressure, while the 3.0 combined steals and blocks reflected active defense. His postseason workload built on a regular-season role in which he led the Blue Coats in assists and repeatedly functioned as their offensive organizer. | Ricky Council IV | Primary Wing Creator (1.1) | 36.0 | High (1.2) | 29.5 | 7.0 | 3.0 | 4.5 | 116.16 | Council attacked as a powerful scoring wing, using his size and athleticism to pressure the rim while still taking a healthy volume of threes. The postseason sample shows him carrying a major offensive burden alongside Dowtin, with strong rebounding and disruptive defensive activity keeping his impact from being purely scoring-based. His larger G League role helped translate into an NBA opportunity that spring. Sixers’ Ricky Council IV has earned a role with the Sixers this year and beyond | NBA G League All-Rookie Team (2024) |
| Jarron Cumberland | Secondary Offensive Creator (1.05) | 30.0 | Medium (1.1) | 15.5 | 3.5 | 5.0 | 2.5 | 64.68 | Cumberland operated as Delaware’s connective creator behind the two primary scorers, comfortable initiating possessions, making reads and attacking gaps rather than simply spotting up. His value was particularly apparent in his passing and defensive activity, giving the Coats another ballhandler when their main creators drew attention. He also had a reputation for taking on difficult possessions, fitting the rugged, multipurpose role he had developed in the G League. | Melvin Frazier Jr. | Starting Two-Way Wing (1.05) | 34.0 | Medium (1.1) | 14.5 | 7.5 | 2.5 | 0.5 | 57.75 | Frazier supplied the physical wing minutes that balanced Delaware’s guard-heavy attack, combining perimeter shooting with strong defensive rebounding and enough secondary creation to keep possessions moving. His playoff workload reflected a trusted starting role rather than a specialist assignment, and his ability to guard across positions gave the lineup some needed versatility. Melvin Frazier Jr. | — |
| Terquavion Smith | Sixth Man Shot Creator (1.0) | 24.0 | Medium (1.1) | 8.0 | 3.5 | 0.5 | 1.0 | 28.60 | Smith remained a high-variance perimeter scorer whose value came from shot-making gravity and willingness to attack quickly off the bench. The playoff sample was inefficient, but the role itself was established earlier in the season, when his high-volume three-point shooting made him one of Delaware’s most dangerous offensive reserves. He finished the season with leaguewide rookie recognition. Philadelphia 76ers Rookie Lands Major G League Accolade | NBA G League All-Rookie Team (2024) |
| Patrick McCaw | Defensive Utility Wing (1.0) | 23.5 | Low (1.0) | 5.5 | 2.5 | 1.0 | 2.0 | 22.00 | McCaw’s postseason value was rooted more in lineup stability and defensive instincts than offensive volume. He could occupy wing minutes without demanding touches, while his length and experience helped Delaware maintain pressure away from the ball. That low-usage utility role was consistent with his broader season function as a veteran presence who could slide between perimeter assignments. | — |
| Aminu Mohammed | Energy Reserve (1.0) | 16.0 | Low (1.0) | 5.0 | 4.0 | 0.0 | 1.5 | 18.00 | Mohammed brought an energetic, physical dimension in limited playoff minutes, particularly through offensive rebounding and activity around the rim. His efficiency allowed Delaware to get useful possessions without designing the offense around him, making him a straightforward change-of-pace option when the starters needed fresh legs. | — |
| Jared Brownridge | Movement Shooting Specialist (1.0) | 24.5 | Low (1.0) | 4.5 | 2.5 | 1.0 | 0.0 | 16.00 | Brownridge’s job was to stretch the floor and punish defenses that collapsed toward Delaware’s primary creators. He had spent years establishing himself as a dependable veteran shooter in the G League, and that experience showed in a playoff role built around spacing rather than ball dominance.
