The Delaware Blue Coats’ 2021-22 season followed the franchise’s championship breakthrough and featured another strong campaign built around a mix of returning prospects and experienced G League talent. Delaware finished 22-12 during the regular season and again established itself among the Eastern Conference’s top teams. Paul Reed remained a dominant force whenever available, continuing to split time between Delaware and the Philadelphia 76ers, while Jaden Springer gained valuable professional experience during his rookie season. The roster also featured productive stretches from Charlie Brown Jr., Aaron Henry, and Myles Powell, giving the Blue Coats scoring depth and perimeter shot creation. Although their postseason run ended before a return to the Finals could materialize, the season reinforced Delaware’s status as one of the league’s premier affiliates, with several players using prominent roles to strengthen their NBA prospects.

His 8-game sample was built around the same disruptive style that had already made him a G League MVP-level prospect; he also produced a six-game double-double streak during the Showcase Cup portion. Paul Reed Named 2021 NBA G League Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year 2021 G League MVP; 2021 G League Rookie of the Year; 2021 G League All-NBA First Team; 2021 G League All-Rookie Team; 2021 G League All-Defensive Team
Shaquille Harrison Defensive Quarterback (1.1) 32.1 High (1.2) 19.6 6.6 5.9 3.6 94.25 Defensive tone-setter who also carried major creation duties, using ball pressure, anticipation and downhill attacking to keep Delaware’s pace high. His combination of 5.9 assists and 3.3 steals made him much more than a defensive specialist; he was effectively a two-way initiator. Shaquille Harrison named G League Defensive Player of the Year 2021-22 G League Defensive Player of the Year; 2021-22 G League All-Defensive Team
Charlie Brown Jr. Two-Way Wing Scorer (1.05) 30.2 High (1.2) 16.8 8.1 1.6 2.5 73.08 Long, physical wing who gave Delaware scoring without sacrificing defensive activity. His rebounding from the perimeter was particularly useful, while his 40.0% three-point shooting gave the offense legitimate spacing; the 11-game stint also earned him an NBA opportunity. 76ers Sign Charlie Brown Jr. to Two-Way Contract 2021-22 G League Player of the Week (Nov. 15-21)
Charles Bassey Rim-Protecting Centerpiece (1.05) 25.0 High (1.2) 16.0 14.0 1.0 2.0 69.30 Powerful interior presence whose value came from occupying the paint, attacking the offensive glass and erasing shots at the rim. The one-game sample is too small for broad conclusions, but a 14-rebound, 2-block performance showed exactly why his physical profile translated so well to G League play. Charles Bassey Named G League Player Of The Week 2021-22 G League All-NBA Second Team; 2021-22 G League All-Rookie Team; 2021-22 G League All-Defensive Team; G League Player of the Week (Mar. 28-Apr. 2, 2022)
Shamorie Ponds Pick-and-Roll Lead Guard (1.05) 27.8 High (1.2) 13.5 5.5 5.5 1.5 65.52 Crafty lead guard who organized possessions and supplied much of Delaware’s half-court orchestration. His assist volume points to a pass-first responsibility, while the relatively modest three-point efficiency suggests his strongest offensive value came from probing, playmaking and creating inside the arc. Delaware Selects Shamorie Ponds With First Pick —
Jaden Springer Point-of-Attack Pressure Guard (1.05) 31.0 High (1.1) 15.0 3.9 2.4 3.4 57.06 Young defensive-minded guard whose role blended on-ball pressure, transition attacking and secondary creation. His 2.6 steals-plus-blocks figure undersells the defensive disruption reflected in his aggressive perimeter approach, while his 31-minute workload showed considerable trust in his development. Jaden Springer, Blue Coats, Look to Continue Winning Streak vs. Raptors 905 —
Haywood Highsmith Stretch Forward Connector (1.05) 27.8 High (1.1) 14.0 5.2 1.9 1.9 53.13 Versatile forward who connected Delaware’s lineups with spot-up shooting, rebounding and switchable defense. His 39.1% three-point accuracy was especially valuable on a roster built around aggressive drivers and interior threats, allowing him to punish help rotations without dominating the ball. Haywood Highsmith —
Braxton Key Two-Way Forward Creator (1.05) 26.3 High (1.1) 13.1 7.6 2.9 3.1 61.68 Do-it-all forward who could initiate offense, crash the glass and defend across positions. His three-game stretch of double-doubles underscored the all-around nature of the role, while the combination of rebounding, assists, steals and blocks made him one of Delaware’s most versatile lineup pieces. Braxton Key, Blue Coats Look to Sweep Two-Game Set in Fort Wayne 2021-22 G League Most Improved Player voting: 2nd; 2021-22 G League All-NBA Second Team; 2021-22 G League All-Defensive Team
Aaron Henry Secondary Wing Creator (1.05) 30.6 Medium (1.1) 13.2 4.7 1.9 1.6 49.43 Big-bodied wing who operated as a secondary scorer and connective passer rather than a pure isolation engine. His ability to contribute across the lineup became especially useful as Delaware shuffled personnel, and his size allowed him to absorb tougher perimeter assignments. Aaron Henry —
Jarron Cumberland Offensive Orchestration Guard (1.05) 21.1 Medium (1.1) 9.4 3.7 2.8 1.3 39.73 Versatile guard whose value went beyond his modest regular-season scoring line: he could initiate offense, rebound from the backcourt and make plays for others. His season opened with a much larger creative role in Delaware’s Showcase Cup run, where his all-around production earned tournament MVP honors before his NBA call-up. NBA G League News & Notes: Winter Showcase Recap 2021 Showcase Cup Champion; 2021 Showcase Cup MVP
Jared Brownridge Movement Shooting Specialist (1.05) 26.4 Medium (1.1) 11.4 2.6 1.7 1.3 39.27 Movement shooter who stretched defenses well beyond the arc and supplied instant scoring when possessions broke down. His 7.6 three-point attempts per game show how heavily Delaware used him as a perimeter release valve, with his off-ball gravity complementing the team’s attacking guards. Jared Brownridge —
Tra-Deon Hollins Defensive Backup Point Guard (1.0) 14.3 Medium (1.0) 4.8 2.5 2.1 1.6 22.00 Defensive-minded reserve guard whose primary contribution came from pressure at the point of attack and keeping the ball moving. The small sample limits the broader evaluation, but his assist-to-scoring profile fits a low-usage organizer rather than a shot creator. Tra-Deon Hollins —
Lamine Diane Energy Frontcourt Reserve (1.0) 9.8 Low (1.0) 5.4 3.0 0.8 0.4 19.20 Short-minute forward who brought physicality and rebounding energy without requiring designed offense. His five-game stint was limited, but the willingness to attack the glass and finish possessions gave Delaware useful frontcourt depth. Lamine Diane —
Grant Riller Instant-Offense Reserve (1.0) 11.3 Low (1.0) 5.5 1.5 2.3 0.0 18.60 Compact scoring guard used in a small offensive sample, with most of his value coming from quick creation rather than defensive disruption. Limited minutes make the role difficult to project beyond the documented appearances. Grant Riller —
Demarcus Holland Defensive Utility Guard (1.0) 13.4 Low (1.0) 2.5 2.4 0.9 0.8 13.20 Low-usage guard who supplied depth and defensive minutes while staying mostly outside the offensive hierarchy. His role was fundamentally complementary, with the emphasis on filling possessions rather than creating them. Demarcus Holland —
Barra Njie Developmental Ball-Handling Reserve (1.0) 5.9 Low (1.0) 0.3 0.6 1.1 0.3 4.60 Developmental guard used sparingly, with the clearest contribution coming as a secondary ball-handler in limited minutes. The seven-game sample is too small to support a broader role assessment, but his assist activity hints at a pass-first approach. Coats Select Ponds, Njie in NBA G League Draft —
Brian Cameron End-of-Rotation Guard (1.0) 4.0 Low (1.0) 1.5 0.0 0.5 0.0 4.00 Extremely limited sample; functioned primarily as end-of-rotation guard depth rather than a regular offensive option. The two appearances provide too little evidence for a more expansive role judgment. —

Paul Reed Two-Way Interior Catalyst (1.1) 31.8 High (1.2) 22.3 13.6 2.8 3.2 110.62 Mobile interior scorer who combined rim pressure, offensive rebounding and disruptive help defense. His Delaware assignment came after an earlier NBA stint, and the 2021-22 Blue Coats used him as a featured frontcourt piece rather than simply a developmental big. (The NBA G League) —
Charles Bassey Rim-Protecting Centerpiece (1.1) 28.6 High (1.2) 18.9 10.3 1.4 4.2 91.87 Powerful paint presence who gave Delaware a genuine defensive eraser while also finishing possessions on the glass. His play earned NBA call-ups during the season, including a Detroit 10-day contract after he had established himself as one of Delaware’s most complete two-way forwards. (The NBA G League) NBA G League All-NBA Second Team (2022); NBA G League All-Defensive Team (2022); NBA G League Most Improved Player voting: 2nd (2022)
Myles Powell Lead Shot-Creation Guard (1.1) 25.7 High (1.2) 22.5 3.8 2.8 1.2 79.99 Dynamic scoring guard whose Delaware role centered on creating his own offense, particularly from three-point range and pull-up situations. His 20-game stint came with a substantial scoring workload, and his established reputation as a high-volume Seton Hall scorer made him a natural offensive focal point in the G League. (Hoops Rumors) —
Charlie Brown Jr. Starting Two-Way Wing (1.05) 29.5 High (1.1) 15.9 6.5 2.6 2.9 64.45 Physical wing who supplied spacing while also doing the less glamorous work on the glass and around the defensive perimeter. His 6.5 rebounds per game were particularly useful for a perimeter player, and Delaware increasingly trusted him as a two-way starter during the season. (Delaware Blue Coats) —
Shaquille Harrison Defensive Quarterback (1.1) 31.1 High (1.1) 12.6 4.7 5.9 2.4 61.95 Defensive tone-setter who turned pressure defense into offense and also handled significant creation duties. Delaware led the league in steals, blocks and forced turnovers, while Harrison’s perimeter defense and playmaking earned him the 2021-22 Defensive Player of the Year award. (WITN Channel 22 Wilmington, Delaware) NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year (2022); NBA G League All-Defensive Team (2022)
Shamorie Ponds Pick-and-Roll Lead Guard (1.05) 24.5 High (1.1) 13.4 4.0 4.7 2.0 55.67 Crafty lead guard whose best work came through ball control, probing and creating shots for teammates. Delaware selected him first overall in the 2021-22 G League Draft, a clear indication that the organization viewed him as a lead-guard piece rather than a purely scoring reserve. (The NBA G League) —
Jaden Springer Point-of-Attack Pressure Guard (1.05) 25.5 High (1.1) 14.2 4.4 2.5 2.4 54.29 Young guard whose value was rooted in defensive pressure, downhill attacks and secondary playmaking. Delaware used him as a developmental two-way piece while Philadelphia managed his assignments, and his ability to defend opposing backcourts gave the Coats another aggressive perimeter option. (Delaware Blue Coats) —
Haywood Highsmith Stretch Forward Connector (1.05) 29.5 High (1.1) 13.4 5.4 2.3 2.2 53.82 Versatile forward who connected possessions with spot-up shooting, rebounding and switchable defense. His 38.8% three-point shooting on meaningful volume forced defenses to respect him away from the paint, while his defensive versatility allowed Delaware to change matchups without changing personnel. (NBA G League Stats) —
Aaron Henry Secondary Wing Creator (1.05) 27.6 Medium (1.1) 13.3 4.6 2.5 1.8 51.28 Strong-bodied wing who operated between scorer and connector, attacking closeouts while helping move the ball. His Michigan State background and size gave Delaware a useful secondary creator who could handle physical perimeter assignments without dominating possessions. (The NBA G League) —
Jarron Cumberland Showcase Lead Creator (1.05) 24.8 Medium (1.1) 10.4 4.0 3.6 1.7 45.51 Experienced offensive connector whose value came from balancing scoring with playmaking. His biggest Delaware contribution came during the Showcase Cup, when he emerged as the central creator in the title run and was named Showcase Cup MVP before receiving an NBA opportunity. (Call-Ups) NBA G League Showcase Cup Champion (2021); Showcase Cup MVP (2021)
Jared Brownridge Movement Shooting Specialist (1.0) 23.3 Medium (1.1) 11.6 2.1 1.8 0.9 36.08 Veteran shooting specialist whose job was to stretch the floor and punish defensive help. His 7.8 three-point attempts per game show how heavily his role leaned toward perimeter volume, making him a useful release valve alongside Delaware’s higher-usage creators. (Wikipedia) —
D.J. McCall Defensive Rebound Wing (1.0) 21.0 Low (1.0) 8.0 6.0 3.0 2.0 38.00 Limited one-game sample, with the most notable contribution coming from his willingness to rebound and make simple connective plays from the wing. The appearance is too small to support a broader season-long role judgment. —
Patrick McCaw Veteran Defensive Connector (1.0) 25.6 Low (1.0) 6.1 3.6 2.1 1.7 27.00 Veteran wing whose experience made him a stabilizing presence in Delaware’s rotation. His value was less about shot creation and more about defensive positioning, ball movement and giving younger guards a reliable complementary option during the postseason push. (Delaware Blue Coats) —
Karim Mane Transition Playmaking Guard (1.0) 16.8 Low (1.0) 4.0 3.0 3.8 1.5 24.60 Athletic guard used in a limited role but capable of pushing pace and creating for teammates. The small six-game sample makes this more of a snapshot than a definitive evaluation, with his 3.8 assists standing out as the clearest indication of his offensive function. —
Joel Ntambwe Stretch Forward Reserve (1.0) 14.3 Low (1.0) 6.9 2.9 0.6 0.2 21.20 Reserve forward whose offensive role leaned toward spacing and opportunistic scoring rather than primary creation. His seven-game sample was modest, so the evidence supports a situational frontcourt role rather than a sustained rotation assignment. —
Brian Cameron Emergency Scoring Guard (1.0) 20.0 Low (1.0) 9.0 1.0 0.0 0.0 20.00 One-game appearance that showed a willingness to attack shots when given an extended opportunity. With only one documented game, there is not enough evidence to characterize a broader season role. —
Jachai Taylor Emergency Rotation Big (1.0) 32.0 Low (1.0) 4.0 3.0 2.0 0.0 18.00 One-game sample in which the extended 32-minute workload appears to have been situational. His role cannot be reliably generalized beyond that single appearance. —
Josh Sharkey Ball-Movement Reserve Guard (1.0) 21.0 Low (1.0) 2.0 3.0 2.0 1.0 16.00 Limited one-game appearance, with the clearest contribution coming as a low-usage ball mover. The sample is far too small to establish a sustained offensive or defensive role. —
Demarcus Holland Defensive Utility Guard (1.0) 17.5 Low (1.0) 2.9 2.5 0.9 1.1 14.80 Low-usage guard who filled defensive minutes and provided occasional activity without occupying a major offensive role. In one notable midseason win, he supplied timely defensive plays during Delaware’s 13-point victory in Fort Wayne. (Delaware Blue Coats) —
Barra Njie Developmental Ball-Handling Reserve (1.0) 9.3 Low (1.0) 3.7 1.5 1.6 0.5 14.60 Developmental guard whose limited minutes were primarily about gaining experience and keeping possessions organized. His 1.6 assists in just 9.3 minutes suggest a pass-first approach, but the sample remains too small for a stronger conclusion. —
Tyler Roberson Energy Frontcourt Reserve (1.0) 13.6 Low (1.0) 1.6 4.0 0.8 0.6 14.00 Frontcourt depth piece whose clearest contribution was physical work around the glass. The limited role and modest offensive responsibility point to an energy-oriented assignment rather than a scoring position. —
Malik Pope Situational Stretch Forward (1.0) 16.0 Low (1.0) 0.0 4.0 1.0 1.0 12.00 One-game appearance in a highly limited offensive role. His contribution was confined largely to rebounding and secondary passing, making the sample insufficient for a broader evaluation. —
Ron Artest III Developmental Wing Reserve (1.0) 11.0 Low (1.0) 2.5 1.5 0.0 0.3 8.60 Short four-game sample in which he functioned primarily as developmental wing depth. The limited minutes and low offensive involvement make a detailed season evaluation inappropriate. —
