About Heating Up

Heatingup.net is a leading resource for basketball player and team data analytics. We pride ourselves on accuracy and innovation. We invented numerous basketball statistics such as the role tier, usage tier, STK, and impact index stats which are all featured in a player evolution table shown on a player’s career stat pages.

As qualitative data specialists, we focus on the why and how of basketball plays using video analysis to observe strengths, weaknesses, and strategic insights.

Our qualitative insights help basketball coaches refine their game planning, enhance player development, and contribute to improved team performance.

Beyond the Numbers:

Heatingup.net’s Player Profile category has qualitative statistical data player profiles, meaning we analyze non-numerical aspects of gameplay, player performance, and team dynamics in addition to attributes/details of a player, from their height, weight, and wingspan, to what shoes they wear on the basketball court. Heatingup.net was the first website on the internet to create qualitative data player profiles, and it remains the central focus of our site.

About the Founder:

I played 10+ seasons of Divison 1 basketball in Australia as a junior, won 2 Divison 1 titles with the Kilsyth Heat, and made numerous Divison 1 finals appearances for the Kilsyth Cobras. I played domestic basketball in the Kilsyth & Mountain District Basketball Association (KMDBA) and representative basketball in the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL).

I grew up in Greater Melbourne, Australia. My family has a long history in the most competitive basketball leagues in the state of Victoria. My older brother played basketball every year up until age 18 for the Kilsyth Cobras and St Edmunds Saints basketball clubs. I stopped playing for the Kilsyth Cobras and Kilsyth Heat at age 13. Between ages 8 and 13, I played 10+ seasons of Division 1 basketball between two clubs and made every final. I won 2 championships with the Kilsyth Heat and made numerous final appearances with the Kilsyth Cobras. I also played for school teams and made numerous finals appearances for them. Several players I played with became professional athletes as adults. I played with both NBL and American collegiate players. And I played with and against numerous professional athletes who sometimes ended up in sports outside of basketball.

I have gathered much of the information on heatingup.net by doing detective work, speaking with friends, family, professional athletes, reading books, users who email me, and using my internet expertise to source reliable data. Some data also comes from official basketball league sites or hobby sites. Some of the websites I have found that have been filled with reliable data over the years include nba.com, Jonathan Givony’s draftexpress.com (no longer active), mynbadraft.com, realgm.com, wikipedia.com, nbadraft.net, landofbasketball.com, retroseasons.com, basketball-reference.com, official college websites, and others. All qualitative data opinions expressed on heatingup.net are my own. The way I present numerical and categorical data is also my own creation. I have invented features such as a player’s career evolution tables and their Impact Index scores, Role Tiers, Usage Tiers, and an STK stat which combines steals and blocks per game. Such data is found on a player’s career stats pages. I also add player blurbs and updates on player profiles that describe the basketball world as I see it.

A lot of work goes into updating the content on heatingup.net, so that data is as in-depth, accurate, and relevant to today’s visitors as possible. I do have other jobs (I also run consumingtech.com and it’s Website Checker tool thousands rely on for their web browsing), and sometimes the data updates may be delayed. But I read every email and am always updating content as soon as possible.

I have 14 years of experience working online as a journalist, technical writer, reviewer, and analyst. I have worked full-time online as a writer and editor since 2011. I always covered technology until I founded the basketball site heatingup.net in March 2024. You can read my full history on LinkedIn.
