Player Archetype / Play Style

Eddy Curry’s player archetype was that of a low-post scoring center, a classic interior big who generated offense with size, touch, and power on the block rather than perimeter skill or playmaking. Defensively, his role was more that of a paint-bodied interior presence than a consistently reliable anchor, as his physical tools gave him the frame to battle inside but his defense was often viewed as less dependable than his scoring. Offensively, he operated as a back-to-the-basket option who could seal defenders, draw help, and finish through contact, giving teams a true interior scoring target in half-court sets. Physically, Curry stood 7-foot-0 and 295 pounds, pairing rare bulk with strong athletic ability for a player his size. His overall play style was built around deep-post offense, strength-based finishing, and old-school center play, with his best value coming when teams could feed him inside and let him punish single coverage. Player Insights

Eddy Curry was drafted by the Chicago Bulls. He joined Greg Anthony, Jamal Crawford, Tyson Chandler, Charles Oakley, Jalen Rose, and Metta Sandiford-Artest on what could have been a very strong team if they stuck together long enough. But it took a few years until the NBA realized how great of a player Jamal Crawford would become. Tyson Chandler was also very young when Curry was drafted and nobody knew what he would go on to become. They did have Jalen Rose in his prime, however, and should have waited to see what else they had on the roster after it had developed. 2/26/2025
