Shannon began his high school career at Lincoln Park High School in Chicago before transferring to IMG Academy in Florida. He played college basketball at Texas Tech, earning Third-team All-Big 12 honors in 2021 and being named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team in 2020. He later transferred to the University of Illinois, where he was a two-time First-team All-Big Ten selection and received Third-team All-American honors from the Associated Press in 2024.

In the 2024 NBA Draft, Shannon was selected 27th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Throughout his rookie season, he has been assigned several times to the Iowa Wolves, the Timberwolves’ G League affiliate, to gain additional playing experience.

Shannon is known for his athleticism, scoring ability, and defensive versatility, making him a promising talent in the NBA.
