The sports team you ought to support is the one you want to watch. There is no need to think any deeper than that. If your team is resulting in you no longer watching the sport, you no longer like that team. With this understanding, you should try to choose a team based on long-term objectives: what team will you enjoy watching for the longest time? They say fans follow players and not teams nowadays. This lack of loyalty happens when they chose a team based on who they like to watch today only.
That said, what sparks many people’s interest in a sport is the players themselves. Where would my love of basketball be if not for watching the careers of Ray Allen and Tracy McGrady closely? Following players is a good idea for fans; it may not be the only team you want to follow, though, because that affinity with a player will not always be there.
