The 1993–94 Dallas Mavericks were led by Jamal Mashburn as their primary scorer, while rookie Jason Kidd quickly became the team’s chief playmaker and a major all-around contributor. Jim Jackson added secondary scoring and versatility, giving Dallas multiple offensive creators. The Mavericks showed balanced ball movement and respectable rebounding, but below-average defense and inconsistent offensive efficiency limited their ability to convert individual production into team success.

PLAYER NAME ROLE TIER MPG USAGE TIER PPG RPG APG STK IMPACT INDEX NOTES AWARDS
Jim Jackson Starter/Star 37.4 High 19.2 4.7 4.6 1.4 78.41 Shot-creating wing play was already advanced for a second-year guard. Jackson carried much of Dallas’ half-court offense, working from the mid-range and post while also leading the club in assists among regular scorers. NBA All-Rookie First Team 1993
Jamal Mashburn Starter/Star 36.7 High 19.2 4.5 3.4 1.3 74.98 Aggressive scoring from the forward spot made Mashburn an immediate focal point. He attacked off the dribble, absorbed heavy defensive attention and still produced nearly 20 points per game as one of the league’s top rookies. ROY-3, NBA All-Rookie First Team 1994, NBA All-Star Weekend Rookie Challenge 1994
Popeye Jones Key Contributor 21.9 Medium 5.8 7.5 1.2 1.2 36.50 Rebounding energy defined Jones’ season. He consistently won possession battles, especially on the offensive glass, and gave Dallas a physical presence that often exceeded his modest scoring role.
Derek Harper Starter/Star 31.9 Medium 11.6 2.0 3.5 1.7 45.98 Veteran point guard instincts remained valuable even after a midseason trade. Harper steadied the offense, defended opposing guards and provided leadership during a year centered on younger talent.
Sean Rooks Key Contributor 26.7 Medium 11.4 5.5 1.0 1.3 44.35 Interior scoring and physicality were Rooks’ biggest contributions. He supplied reliable low-post production, battled bigger centers and helped stabilize a frontcourt that lacked proven veterans.
Fat Lever Key Contributor 24.0 Low 6.9 3.5 2.6 2.2 31.92 Even late in his career, Lever’s feel for the game stood out. He generated steals, moved the ball efficiently and brought defensive activity to multiple backcourt lineups. NBA All-Star 1988, NBA All-Star 1990
Doug Smith Key Contributor 21.3 Low 8.8 4.4 1.5 1.5 33.81 Blue-collar forward play fit Smith well. He scored opportunistically, defended with energy and contributed across several categories without needing offensive plays run for him.
Tony Campbell Key Contributor 20.4 Medium 9.7 3.1 1.2 1.0 34.65 Veteran scoring punch off the bench gave Dallas another option when the offense stalled. Campbell relied on experience and shot-making rather than athleticism to stay productive. NBA All-Star 1991
Tim Legler Bench 16.7 Low 8.3 1.6 1.5 0.9 24.60 Perimeter shooting was Legler’s ticket to minutes. He spaced the floor effectively and showed the accuracy that would later make him one of the NBA’s premier long-range specialists.
Lorenzo Williams Key Contributor 19.9 Low 3.2 6.1 0.7 1.6 24.36 Defensive-minded frontcourt work drove Williams’ value. He protected the rim, rebounded well and routinely handled the dirty-work assignments around the basket.
Randy White Bench 17.8 Low 6.4 4.6 0.6 1.2 25.60 Athletic reserve forward minutes suited White, who brought rebounding, hustle and occasional scoring bursts whenever injuries opened opportunities.
Terry Davis Bench 19.1 Low 3.7 4.9 0.4 0.7 19.40 Most of Davis’ impact came through effort plays. He attacked the glass, defended physically and filled a supporting role without demanding touches.
Lucious Harris Bench 15.1 Low 5.4 2.0 1.4 0.7 19.00 Young wing development was the priority for Harris. He showed flashes as a scorer and cutter while gradually earning trust within the rotation. Rookie season
Darren Morningstar Bench 16.5 Low 4.3 3.6 0.7 0.7 18.60 Limited offensive usage allowed Morningstar to focus on screening, rebounding and providing depth at center during spot starts. Rookie season
Donald Hodge Bench 8.6 Low 2.7 1.9 0.6 0.6 11.60 Reserve center responsibilities were straightforward: defend, rebound and stay active around the rim. Hodge filled those duties in short stretches.
Morlon Wiley Bench 10.3 Low 1.2 0.5 1.3 1.1 8.20 Defensive pressure was Wiley’s biggest asset. Despite limited minutes, he generated steals and brought energy whenever Dallas needed backcourt depth.
Chucky Brown Bench 10.0 Low 3.0 1.0 0.0 0.0 8.00 Brown appeared only once, but his brief outing showcased the physical forward style that would later help him carve out a lengthy NBA career. NBA Champion 1994
Greg Dreiling Bench 12.7 Low 2.4 3.1 0.6 0.7 13.60 Veteran depth was Dreiling’s role. He provided size, set hard screens and offered dependable frontcourt insurance when called upon.
TEAM TOTALS 240.6 95.1 41.7 19.9 13.0 528.96 Dallas leaned heavily on the emerging duo of Jim Jackson and rookie Jamal Mashburn, who combined for 38.4 points per game. The roster remained young overall, with Popeye Jones supplying rebounding support while several veterans helped guide the transition toward a new core.
