The Jazz concluded the 1983–84 season with a 45–37 record, finishing 1st in the NBA Midwest Division. This marked their first playoff appearance in franchise history. They defeated the Denver Nuggets 3–2 in the First Round but were eliminated by the Phoenix Suns 4–2 in the Western Conference Semifinals.

Notably, Adrian Dantley led the team in scoring, averaging 30.6 points per game, while Mark Eaton anchored the defense with an average of 4.3 blocks per game.
