Tyrese Haliburton was traded from the Sacramento Kings to the Indiana Pacers during the 2021-22 season. Once in Indiana, he blossomed into one of the best point guards in the NBA. Though listed as a swingman, I prefer Haliburton as a point guard.
Notes:
- It surprised me when Tyrese Haliburton was traded to the Indiana Pacers for Domantas Sabonis because he was already a budding star. But there are more reasons why this trade was made. Domantas Sabonis’s father, Arvydas Sabonis, was an NBA legend in his prime.
- Tyrese Haliburton averaged 20 and 10 two seasons in a row (2022-23 and 2023-24).
- Similar players to Tyrese Haliburton include Devin Harris.
Fun Facts
- He played on the Team USA men’s basketball team during the 2024 Paris Olympics but didn’t get much court time due to injury.

The Pacers have a lot of potential this season but I fear they will blow it, mostly because I don’t think they will continue to develop Bennedict Mathurin properly. We saw Mathurin buried on the bench in 2023-24 and being played at small forward, which is not his natural position. Mathurin is a shooting guard, and he has the potential to be one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. If the Pacers don’t make proper use of him this year, they not only may ruin his career but their own chances at being contenders.
