Paul Pierce was the main guy during the Boston Celtics Big 3 era. Part of the reason Pierce was number one is because he was already a Celtic when Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen arrived. Another reason the Celtic’s Big 3 era worked so well was because Pierce was in his prime, having come into the NBA two years after Allen and three years after Garnett.
Paul Pierce was the original James Harden. I don’t know if Harden did change the game any more than Pierce. I think Harden’s coaches chose to use him a certain way. I don’t know if that’s changing the game, especially if you didn’t win doing it. Pierce was the SF version of Harden. And he could have been used as much as Harden if his coach wanted to do it. If Paul Pierce could give you 30 ppg for a stretch in 2001-02, nobody can say what he could or could not have done during the Harden era and in Harden’s system.
