The Nets concluded the 1984–85 NBA season with a 42–40 record, securing 3rd place in the Atlantic Division and 5th in the Eastern Conference. They advanced to the playoffs but were eliminated in the first round by the Detroit Pistons in a 3–0 series sweep.
