The LSU Tigers women’s basketball program has produced some of the biggest names in college basketball history. Here are some of the most notable LSU Tigers women’s basketball legends. (LSU)
1. Joyce Walker
- Years at LSU: 1980–1984
- Position: Guard
- Notable Achievements:
- LSU’s all-time leading scorer with 2,906 career points
- Three-time All-American
- One of the most complete players in program history, ranking highly in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, and blocks
- Later recognized as an SEC Trailblazer and inducted into the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame (LSU)
2. Seimone Augustus
- Years at LSU: 2002–2006
- Position: Guard/Forward
- Notable Achievements:
- Finished with 2,702 career points, second in LSU history
- Three-time WBCA First-Team All-American
- Won the Wade Trophy twice
- Became the first female student-athlete in LSU history to have her jersey retired
- Later earned induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame (LSU)
3. Sylvia Fowles
- Years at LSU: 2004–2008
- Position: Center
- Notable Achievements:
- Led LSU to four straight Final Four appearances
- Still holds LSU career records for rebounds, blocks, and double-doubles
- Two-time WBCA First-Team All-American
- Had her No. 34 jersey retired by LSU
- Later entered the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame (LSU)
4. Julie Gross
- Years at LSU: 1976–1980
- Position: Forward
- Notable Achievements:
- Scored 2,488 career points, one of the highest totals in school history
- Grabbed 1,466 career rebounds, one of the best marks LSU has ever had
- Earned Kodak All-America honors
- Helped establish LSU women’s basketball as a serious national program in its early years (LSU)
5. Cornelia Gayden
- Years at LSU: 1991–1995
- Position: Guard
- Notable Achievements:
- Finished with 2,451 career points
- 1995 All-American and three-time All-SEC selection
- LSU’s all-time leader in career three-pointers made
- Holds LSU’s single-season record for most three-pointers made
- Inducted into the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2025 (LSU)
6. Temeka Johnson
- Years at LSU: 2001–2005
- Position: Guard
- Notable Achievements:
- LSU’s all-time assists leader with 945 career assists
- Helped lead LSU to its first two Final Four appearances in 2004 and 2005
- Won the Lieberman Award as the nation’s top point guard
- Helped LSU win the 2005 SEC regular-season title
- Inducted into the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2025 (LSU)
7. Pokey Chatman
- Years at LSU: 1987–1991
- Position: Guard
- Notable Achievements:
- Earned All-America honors in 1991
- Finished with 1,826 career points
- LSU’s all-time leader in steals and one of the program’s top career assist leaders
- Later became LSU’s head coach and remained one of the most important figures in program history
- Inducted into the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame (LSU)
8. Marie Ferdinand-Harris
- Years at LSU: 1997–2001
- Position: Guard
- Notable Achievements:
- Kodak All-American in 2001
- Naismith Award finalist
- Helped LSU reach the Elite Eight in 2000 and the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2001
- Became an LSU Athletics Hall of Fame inductee
