John Collins started his career as an electric power forward for the Atlanta Hawks. After a few years with the Hawks, his name started getting mentioned in trade rumors. Why would the Hawks want to move one of the best young power forwards in the NBA at the time? That question was answered a few years later when Trae Young’s name started getting mentioned in trade rumors: the Hawks have a strange front office. Collins was traded to the Jazz. I thought the Jazz would be a good place for him, but they became one of the worst teams in the league and I don’t think they have drafted a future star yet. It’s not a great set of circumstances for Collins because while they’re one of the worst teams in the West, there are still a lot of mouths to feed since he is playing alongside Walker Kessler and Lauri Markkanen in the frontcourt. But that’s the risk you take by signing a long contract. 2/11/2025
