The Duke Blue Devils women’s basketball program has produced many elite players who helped build the school into one of the premier forces in ACC and national women’s basketball. Here are some of the most notable Duke Blue Devils women’s basketball legends. (Duke University)
1. Alana Beard
- Years at Duke: 2000–2004
- Position: Guard/Forward
- Notable Achievements:
- Duke’s all-time leading scorer in women’s basketball history
- First Duke women’s basketball player to have her jersey retired
- Two-time National Player of the Year
- Helped lead the Blue Devils to four straight ACC titles
- Took Duke to back-to-back Final Four appearances and became the defining player of the program’s rise in the early 2000s (Duke University)
2. Lindsey Harding
- Years at Duke: 2003–2007
- Position: Guard
- Notable Achievements:
- Won National Player of the Year honors in 2007
- Received the inaugural WBCA National Defensive Player of the Year award
- Developed into one of the best point guards in the country
- Helped Duke pile up 128 wins during her career
- Led the Blue Devils to multiple ACC championships and two Final Four appearances (Duke University)
3. Monique Currie
- Years at Duke: 2001–2006
- Position: Guard/Forward
- Notable Achievements:
- Became the first player in ACC women’s basketball history with 2,000 points, 800 rebounds, 400 assists and 200 steals
- One of the most complete all-around players Duke has ever had
- Earned ACC Player of the Year honors in 2005
- Helped Duke win 30 or more games in each of her five seasons with the program
- Finished her career as one of the biggest matchup problems in Duke history (Duke University)
4. Elizabeth Williams
- Years at Duke: 2011–2015
- Position: Center/Forward
- Notable Achievements:
- 2015 National Defensive Player of the Year
- Four-time AP All-America selection
- Four-time ACC Defensive Player of the Year
- Became the first player in ACC history to total more than 1,900 points, 1,000 rebounds and 400 blocks
- Had her jersey retired after one of the most dominant defensive careers the league has ever seen (Duke University)
5. Georgia Schweitzer
- Years at Duke: 1997–2001
- Position: Guard
- Notable Achievements:
- Two-time ACC Player of the Year
- Helped Duke reach the 1999 national championship game
- Led the Blue Devils to 111 wins during her career
- Became the first Duke player to post 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists and 150 steals in a career
- Was one of the central figures in pushing Duke into national contention at the turn of the century (Duke University)
6. Chris Moreland
- Years at Duke: 1984–1988
- Position: Forward
- Notable Achievements:
- First women’s basketball player at Duke to earn first-team All-America honors
- Won ACC Rookie of the Year and later ACC Player of the Year
- Finished her career with school records in both points and rebounds at the time
- Remains the only Duke basketball player, men’s or women’s, to lead the team in scoring and rebounding for four straight seasons
- Stands as one of the foundational stars in program history (Duke University)
7. Alison Bales
- Years at Duke: 2003–2007
- Position: Center
- Notable Achievements:
- Finished her career among the top shot-blockers in NCAA women’s basketball history
- Set Duke’s single-season blocks record with 151
- Closed her career with 434 blocks, which still places her among the ACC’s all-time leaders
- Was regarded as one of the nation’s best defensive anchors during her era
- Helped lead Duke to one of the strongest stretches in program history, including a 30-0 start in her senior season (Duke University)
8. Jasmine Thomas
- Years at Duke: 2007–2011
- Position: Guard
- Notable Achievements:
- Finished her Duke career with 1,704 points
- Ranked among the program’s career leaders in scoring, assists, steals and minutes
- Brought scoring punch, perimeter shooting and strong on-ball defense to the backcourt
- Became one of the key guards of Duke’s late-2000s and early-2010s teams
- Left the program as one of the most productive two-way guards in school history (Duke University)
