The Dallas Wings franchise has undergone several ownership changes and relocations since joining the WNBA in 1998. Originally founded as the Detroit Shock, the team has won multiple championships across different cities while evolving under a series of ownership groups.

Detroit Shock Ownership Group (1998–2009)

The franchise was established in 1998 as the Detroit Shock and was owned by businessman Bill Davidson through Palace Sports & Entertainment. Under Davidson’s ownership, the Shock became one of the WNBA’s premier teams, winning championships in 2003, 2006, and 2008.

Following Davidson’s death in 2009, ownership remained with his estate while the future of the franchise was evaluated.

Karen Davidson, widow of Bill Davidson, assumed control of Palace Sports & Entertainment and the Detroit Shock. During this period, the organization explored options for the franchise, ultimately leading to its sale and relocation.

Tulsa Shock Ownership Group (2010–2015)

In 2010, a group led by Tulsa businessman Bill Cameron purchased the franchise and relocated it to Oklahoma, where it became the Tulsa Shock. Despite challenges on the court, the ownership group helped keep the franchise viable and positioned it for future growth.

Bill Cameron and his investment partners remained the franchise’s principal owners as plans were developed to relocate the team once again. In 2015, the WNBA approved the move to the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

Wings Ventures, LLC (2016–2023)

The franchise relocated to Texas in 2016 and was renamed the Dallas Wings. Ownership was held by Wings Ventures, LLC, a group led by Bill Cameron alongside several Texas-based investors. During this era, the Wings established themselves in the Dallas market and returned to playoff contention.

In recent years, the ownership structure expanded with additional investors joining the franchise as the WNBA experienced significant growth. The ownership group has overseen increased investment in facilities, player resources, and the team’s long-term future in North Texas.

The Wings entered a new phase of growth with plans for a dedicated practice facility and a move to a larger arena in the Dallas area.
