The 1977–78 Atlanta Hawks finished the regular season with a 41–41 record, securing the 6th spot in the Eastern Conference. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Washington Bullets, losing the series 0–2.

Notably, Head Coach Hubie Brown was honored as the NBA Coach of the Year for his leadership during the season.
