The 2002 WNBA season was the sixth season in league history and featured 16 teams competing across the Eastern and Western Conferences. The Los Angeles Sparks finished with the league’s best regular-season record at 25-7 and successfully defended their title, winning a second consecutive WNBA championship. Led by one of the strongest rosters in the league, the Sparks continued their dominance while several other franchises emerged as serious playoff contenders during another competitive season of professional women’s basketball.

Los Angeles defeated Seattle 2-0, Utah defeated Houston 2-1, New York defeated Indiana 2-1, and Washington defeated Charlotte 2-0 in the first round. Los Angeles then defeated Utah 2-0, New York defeated Washington 2-1, and Los Angeles defeated New York 2-0 in the WNBA Finals.
