The Delaware 87ers’ 2014–15 season was highlighted by the emergence of one of the NBA D-League’s brightest stars in Russ Smith. The former Louisville standout put together a spectacular campaign, leading the league in scoring and earning NBA D-League Rookie of the Year honors while providing the 87ers with a constant offensive spark. Delaware also benefited from the presence of Philadelphia 76ers prospects and assignments, including appearances from Jerami Grant and JaKarr Sampson, as the affiliation between the two organizations continued to strengthen. Although the 87ers finished below .500 and missed the playoffs, the season was notable for Smith’s individual excellence and for the opportunities it provided a young roster seeking to establish itself within the Sixers’ rebuilding system.
