The Delaware 87ers’ 2013–14 season marked the debut of the franchise after relocating from Utah and becoming the Philadelphia 76ers’ direct NBA Development League affiliate. As a first-year team in Newark, Delaware, the 87ers spent much of the season building an identity while integrating NBA assignments, affiliate players, and veteran D-League talent. Guard Lorenzo Brown emerged as the team’s standout performer, showcasing the playmaking ability that made him one of the league’s top prospects and eventually earning NBA opportunities. The roster also featured appearances from Philadelphia-assigned players, reflecting the beginning of a close developmental relationship between the two organizations. While the 87ers finished outside the playoff picture, the inaugural season established the foundation for professional basketball in Delaware and began a new chapter in the franchise’s history.
