The Los Angeles D-Fenders’ 2013-14 season revolved around one of the most remarkable individual campaigns in NBA D-League history. Guard Manny Harris dominated from opening night, leading the league in scoring and piling up points at a historic rate on his way to earning D-League MVP honors. His production made the D-Fenders a nightly attraction and helped offset a roster that experienced frequent turnover, a common reality for teams closely connected to NBA organizations. Los Angeles also received contributions from players such as Shawne Williams, Chris Douglas-Roberts, and Eric Boateng during various stretches of the season, but Harris was unquestionably the focal point. The D-Fenders finished 24-26 and missed the playoffs, making the season unusual in that it is remembered far more for a singular standout performance than for the team’s overall record.

Malcolm Thomas Two-Way Interior Catalyst (1.1) 40.0 High 33.5 15.5 2.5 4.5 135.52 Defensive-minded interior force who stretched his responsibilities well beyond scoring, combining rim protection, rebounding and efficient interior finishing. His two-game sample was dominant, including 40 minutes per game and a 15.5-rebound presence. Independent player profile NBA D-League Futures All-Star (2014)
Manny Harris Primary Offensive Engine (1.1) 38.7 High 31.6 7.9 3.8 2.2 120.12 Harris functioned as a full-volume scoring hub, attacking relentlessly and generating offense without needing a conventional point guard role. His D-Fenders stint included a 56-point franchise record and a stretch of consecutive Performer of the Week honors. SB Nation NBA D-League All-Star (2014); NBA D-League Performer of the Week (January 2014, twice)
Ryan Kelly Stretch-Four Scoring Hub (1.05) 39.8 High 25.2 7.6 3.8 3.0 91.48 Kelly’s assignment was about more than scoring: he spaced the floor, moved the ball and used his size as a passing outlet while rebuilding conditioning after a foot injury. The D-Fenders stint became a springboard into the Lakers rotation. Lakers player feature None
Terrence Williams Primary Wing Creator (1.1) 35.7 High 20.5 5.0 6.4 1.6 88.44 A big, versatile creator who could initiate offense from the wing, Williams supplied scoring bursts while also handling substantial playmaking duties. His 50-point D-Fenders performance showed how quickly he could take over a game. D-Fenders coverage None
Shawne Williams Stretch Wing Scorer (1.05) 31.5 High 20.5 7.0 1.7 2.9 74.15 Williams operated as a floor-spacing forward with enough size to punish smaller lineups and enough range to pull defenders away from the paint. He also became a useful rebounder and rim deterrent during his D-Fenders stint. Los Angeles Times NBA D-League Performer of the Week (March 2014)
Jamario Moon Veteran Two-Way Forward (1.05) 32.7 High 14.3 6.9 3.5 4.8 68.15 Moon brought veteran length and defensive activity to the forward rotation, with his value coming from rebounding, weak-side disruption and the ability to play either forward spot. His stint was brief before he moved to Olympiacos in January. Olympiacos announcement None
Brandon Costner Inside-Out Scoring Forward (1.05) 26.7 High 14.5 6.0 2.2 1.5 55.90 Costner was a scoring forward whose game had evolved toward the perimeter without abandoning interior strength. He could stretch defenses with threes while still using his frame around the basket, a combination that carried into his memorable playoff scoring burst. ShamSports player profile None
James Southerland Stretch-Forward Scoring Specialist (1.05) 28.6 High 14.7 6.5 1.0 1.7 55.21 Southerland’s calling card was perimeter shooting from the forward position, but his D-Fenders role also included minutes at power forward and shooting guard. That positional flexibility helped turn him into an NBA call-up candidate late in the season. New Orleans Pelicans coverage NBA D-League All-Rookie Second Team (2014)
Xavier Henry Explosive Slashing Wing (1.0) 24.5 High 17.0 2.0 1.5 3.5 52.80 Henry supplied downhill scoring and athletic pressure during a tiny two-game sample, with his strongest value coming from attacking space rather than controlling possessions. The stint followed a midseason D-Fenders assignment from the Lakers. Lakers transaction record None
C.J. Williams Starting Two-Way Wing (1.1) 29.6 High 14.4 4.6 1.9 1.8 54.93 Williams provided a balanced wing package: dependable perimeter shooting, secondary creation and disruptive defense without needing the ball constantly. He became one of the D-Fenders’ most reliable two-way perimeter pieces over a full season. Independent season roster coverage None
Josh Magette Franchise Floor General (1.05) 30.2 Medium 10.3 3.5 6.9 1.9 52.21 Magette was the team’s classic pass-first organizer, keeping the ball moving, controlling tempo and making low-risk reads rather than forcing penetration. His 6.9 assists and 1.9 steals reflected a point guard who created value through decision-making and anticipation. ShamSports player feature None
Elias Harris Interior Finishing Forward (1.0) 28.0 Medium 18.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 50.60 Harris’ lone appearance was essentially a high-usage showcase assignment: he attacked the interior, drew fouls and converted efficiently around the basket. The one-game sample is too small to establish a sustained role, but the offensive responsibility was unmistakable. Lakers assignment report None
Travis Hyman Rim-Protecting Centerpiece (1.05) 18.9 Medium 7.0 6.4 0.8 3.1 36.33 Hyman’s role was straightforward but valuable: occupy the interior, clean the glass and protect the rim. His 2.0 blocks per game made him a genuine defensive specialist even without a large offensive workload. ShamSports player profile None
Josiah Turner Secondary Pick-and-Roll Creator (1.05) 21.1 Medium 11.2 3.0 4.3 1.7 46.66 Turner functioned as a secondary ball-handler rather than a pure scoring guard, using his size and passing instincts to organize possessions while contributing opportunistic scoring. His limited starting role makes the sample more indicative of rotation function than star-level responsibility. Independent roster coverage None
Kareem Rush Veteran Perimeter Reserve (1.0) 25.3 Low 9.8 3.8 1.7 1.5 33.60 Rush provided veteran shooting experience and perimeter scoring during a short return to the D-Fenders. His January departure was less about basketball ability than his decision to step away from the D-League while continuing to consider his broader playing future. Los Angeles Times None
Andre Ingram Movement Shooting Specialist (1.0) 23.0 Low 9.1 3.2 1.7 1.2 30.40 Ingram’s value centered on spacing and movement shooting, giving the D-Fenders a low-maintenance perimeter option who could punish defensive help. His return after sitting out the previous season helped stabilize the team’s wing rotation. Independent player coverage NBA D-League West Division Champion (2014)
Matt Bouldin Veteran Ball-Movement Guard (1.0) 16.2 Low 4.0 2.2 2.0 0.8 18.00 Bouldin was a limited D-Fenders contributor during the opening portion of the season, functioning mainly as a connective guard rather than a primary scorer. He was subsequently moved to Delaware and then Fort Wayne, where his season ended with a championship. Independent player history NBA D-League Champion (2014); NBA D-League Finals Co-MVP (2014)
Gideon Gamble Defensive Utility Wing (1.0) 9.6 Low 5.2 1.4 0.6 0.7 15.80 Gamble filled a depth role built around defensive energy and positional flexibility. With limited minutes and no starts, his contribution was primarily situational rather than offensive, making the small sample difficult to extrapolate beyond rotation duty. Independent roster database None
Elijah Millsap Energy Reserve Forward (1.0) 14.0 Low 5.0 1.0 0.0 1.0 14.00 Millsap’s D-Fenders appearance was extremely brief, so the clearest takeaway is his activity level rather than any sustained offensive role. He returned from a stint with Maccabi Ashdod shortly before appearing for Los Angeles. EuroLeague player record None

Brandon Costner Primary Interior Scorer (1.1) 32.0 High (1.2) 28.5 8.5 3.0 3.5 114.84 As the D-Fenders’ interior scoring hub, Costner attacked the Santa Cruz front line relentlessly and carried the heaviest offensive burden of the two-game series. His 39-point, 11-rebound Game 2 performance set a franchise playoff scoring record, while the 3.5 combined steals and blocks per game show that his impact extended beyond scoring. Los Angeles Times
Terrence Williams Franchise Floor General (1.1) 35.0 High (1.2) 22.0 7.5 5.5 1.0 95.04 Williams functioned as the versatile offensive initiator, mixing wing scoring with playmaking rather than simply hunting shots. His 5.5 assists and 7.5 rebounds underline how much of the offense ran through his all-around skill set, and he entered the postseason as the team’s established creator after earning All-NBA D-League Third Team honors. El Segundo Herald All-NBA D-League Third Team (2014)
Shawne Williams Stretch Frontcourt Scorer (1.05) 38.0 Medium (1.1) 11.0 10.0 3.5 1.5 60.06 Williams supplied a rangy frontcourt presence who could space the floor while still absorbing a major rebounding load. The playoff role was more physical than his perimeter reputation might suggest: he finished the series with a double-double in the deciding game, and his earlier D-Fenders stint had already established him as a high-output scorer with legitimate three-point range. Los Angeles Times
C.J. Williams Starting Two-Way Wing (1.05) 36.5 Medium (1.1) 16.5 5.0 2.0 2.0 58.91 Williams gave Los Angeles a dependable two-way wing presence, combining perimeter shooting with enough physicality to stay involved defensively. His 45.5% three-point shooting in the series was particularly useful alongside the higher-usage creators, while his 1.5 steals per game added some disruptive value on the other end. Austin Spurs coverage at OurSports Central
Josh Magette Pick-and-Roll Organizer (1.05) 26.5 Medium (1.1) 11.5 3.0 6.0 2.5 53.13 Magette was the stabilizing point guard, keeping the offense organized and making the simple read rather than forcing difficult creation. That profile remained evident in the postseason: six assists and 2.5 steals per game gave him a meaningful connective role even while his scoring remained secondary to Costner and the Williams duo.
Josiah Turner Rim-Attacking Reserve Guard (1.0) 23.0 Medium (1.1) 15.5 1.5 2.5 1.0 45.10 Turner brought a distinctly downhill element off the bench, looking to turn the corner, get into the paint and pressure the defense in transition. That aggressive style made him a useful change of pace behind Magette, and his 16-point playoff outing showed how quickly he could become a scoring factor despite not starting. Silver Screen and Roll
Andre Ingram Perimeter Spacing Specialist (1.0) 27.5 Low (1.0) 10.0 3.0 1.5 0.5 30.00 Ingram served primarily as a floor-spacing option, giving the D-Fenders a reliable shooting threat without demanding many possessions. His playoff sample was tiny, but the 50% three-point shooting fits the broader role he had established in Los Angeles as a specialist capable of stretching defenses from the perimeter.
Elijah Millsap Defensive Disruption Reserve (1.0) 9.0 Low (1.0) 7.0 3.0 1.0 3.5 29.00 Millsap was essentially a situational energy piece in an unusually small playoff sample after returning to the D-Fenders shortly before the postseason. His 3.0 steals and 0.5 blocks per game stand out more than the scoring, suggesting a disruptive defensive role rather than sustained offensive responsibility. South Bay Lakers season capsule
Travis Hyman Rim-Protecting Backup Center (1.0) 12.5 Low (1.0) 4.5 7.0 1.0 1.5 29.00 Hyman’s value came from size, rebounding and interior protection rather than offensive creation. With only 12.5 minutes per game in the two-game series, the sample was limited, but his 7.0 rebounds and 0.5 blocks per game fit the reserve-center role he occupied behind the D-Fenders’ more versatile frontcourt options.
