Before the 2024-25 season, Charles Barkley listed Trae Young 46th overall and behind players like Derrick White (40) and Tyler Herro (42). I don’t think it’s fair to say Young is behind Herro or White. White’s selection on Team USA was very surprising to me; I wouldn’t have had him in the top 75 before the 2024 Paris Olympics. Granted, his value has risen since he was selected, but he’s not close to the overall player Trae Young is. White is more of a team player which is all Team USA needed. But as an individual, I would put Young ahead of him. As for Herro, he has yet to show any consistency or ability to lead a team. Usually when Butler isn’t playing, he struggles. 10/19/24

ARCHIVES

The Atlanta Hawks would like to move Trae Young but there are no good deals available for him. I don’t know why the Hawks always try to trade their best players. The guy’s name is literally trey and he puts up a lot of threes. What more could an owner want? It doesn’t get any more marketable than that. Trae Young is a very good player. Though slightly undersized, it’s fine for this era. It can be fine for any era. I don’t think he’s smaller than Allen Iverson. When I was a kid, I loved Tracy McGrady. I became a Rockets fan because T-Mac played for the Rockets. I’m fully aware that I was most likely a victim of marketing. When the Rockets brought in a lovable player like T-Mac, they knew it would bring new fans to the team who will continue to support the Rockets for many years after the player is gone. And the contract effectively pays for itself. There’s no problem with the Hawks keeping Trae Young and letting a generation of his fans fall in love with the Hawks. That’s what teams should be doing. 9/3/24
