The Hornets finished the 2012–13 season with a 27–55 record, placing 14th in the Western Conference. While the team struggled, this season marked the beginning of a rebuild around Anthony Davis, who had a strong rookie campaign despite injuries. Greivis Vásquez led the team in assists and emerged as a key contributor.
