Jerry West should be financially compensated for appearing on the NBA logo, either a once-off payment for every year that the NBA chooses to feature him on the logo.

The NBA is a business that chooses to maximize its profits whenever it can, usually by charging the working class of the United States as much money as possible to attend games. There is no reason to be kind to the NBA in return. The NBA wouldn’t be kind to you, so you should take from it the same way it takes from you.

That said, given that the NBA is always operating for self-gain, you have to be prepared for the NBA to potentially replace Jerry West with another player who is willing to appear on the logo for free. Jerry West might be afraid of being removed from the logo should he seek compensation. In this regard, it would be best if the compensation was forced by the player’s union so Jerry himself doesn’t have to suffer any personal consequences.
