The Jazz concluded the 1981–82 season with a 25–57 record, finishing 6th in the Midwest Division and 11th in the Western Conference, thereby missing the playoffs for the eighth consecutive season.

Notably, Adrian Dantley led the league in scoring, averaging 30.3 points per game, and earned All-NBA Second Team honors. Darrell Griffith continued to be a key contributor, averaging 19.8 points per game.
