Reed Sheppard hails from a basketball family; his father, Jeff Sheppard, was the Most Outstanding Player of the 1998 NCAA tournament with the Kentucky Wildcats, and his mother, Stacey Reed Sheppard, scored over 1,400 career points for the Kentucky women’s basketball team.
His older sister, Madison, played college basketball at Campbellsville University.
During his high school career at North Laurel, Sheppard became the starting shooting guard as a freshman and led the state of Kentucky in scoring during his sophomore season. He was named Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior and earned Kentucky Mr. Basketball honors in his senior year. He played college basketball for the University of Kentucky, where he averaged 12.5 points, 4.5 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game in his freshman year, earning accolades such as SEC Freshman of the Year and Second-team All-SEC. Sheppard declared for the NBA Draft after his freshman season and was selected third overall by the Houston Rockets in 2024. He made his NBA debut on October 23, 2024, and was later assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets’ G League affiliate, in January 2025.
