The Hornets finished the 2011–12 season with a 21–45 record, last in the Western Conference. This was a rebuilding year, marked by the departure of franchise cornerstone Chris Paul and the emergence of players like Greivis Vásquez and Jason Smith. Injuries to Eric Gordon limited his impact.
