Kevin Garnett’s NBA career featured several significant trades that shaped his journey across the league. Here’s a chronological overview of his trade history:
July 31, 2007 – Traded from Minnesota Timberwolves to Boston Celtics
After 12 seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Garnett was traded to the Boston Celtics in a blockbuster deal. The Celtics sent Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, two first-round draft picks (including a 2009 pick), and cash considerations to Minnesota in exchange for Garnett. This trade formed Boston’s new “Big Three” alongside Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, leading to an NBA championship in 2008.
June 27, 2013 – Traded from Boston Celtics to Brooklyn Nets
In a major move signaling a rebuild for the Celtics, Garnett, along with Paul Pierce, Jason Terry, and D.J. White, was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. In return, Boston received Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks, Kris Joseph, Keith Bogans, and three future first-round draft picks (2014, 2016, and 2018). This trade provided the Celtics with valuable assets that would later help shape their future roster.
February 19, 2015 – Traded from Brooklyn Nets to Minnesota Timberwolves
Garnett returned to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Thaddeus Young. This move brought Garnett back to the team where he began his NBA career, allowing him to mentor younger players before retiring.
