The Houston Rockets made a mistake by not honoring Tracy McGrady by retiring his jersey. Millions of people followed the Rockets because of that T-Mac era. That era had no greater fan than me. But now, what’s keeping me watching when you don’t honor the era even existed? I have no affinity with the current Rockets, and I don’t have any history that’s being acknowledged. I’d much rather live in Miami than Houston. And I watch more Miami Heat games than Rockets games nowadays because of it.
Houston isn’t a basketball city. There’s nothing to feel connected to. It’s not Indiana. It’s not a mecca for hoops in any way. It’s very arrogant of them not to honor the history they had.
