In 2017–18, LaMelo played for Vytautas Prienai in Lithuania’s LKL, appearing in 8 games with averages of 6.5 points, 2.4 assists, and 1.1 rebounds in about 12.8 minutes per game. In 2019–20, he joined the Illawarra Hawks in Australia’s NBL, where he played 12 games, averaging 17.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game.

LaMelo Ball’s non-traditional route provided him with professional experience before entering the NBA, where he was selected 3rd overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2020 NBA Draft.
